Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Wow!!

"UP, in announcing an overhaul of its reservation network for West Coast terminals effective Aug. 6., said it will establish a new set of fines for truckers who do not show up or cancel without more than 24 hours’ notice. The new penalties come less than two weeks after UP told customers it would eliminate the two-tiered structure to enforce terminal demurrage and enforce a strict 24-hour window in all intermodal terminals starting September before charging storage fees.

Demurrage, a version of a storage fee, was a major sore spot with shippers testifying at a hearing of the Surface Transportation Board in May and an issue for smaller shippers without the flexibility to open distribution centers on the weekend."

Trains are 48 hours late. It takes UP 24 hours to drop the box. Distribution centers aren’t open on the weekend. Let’s punish the customer for the ineptness of the UP. It’s a great business model. Customers are leaving in mass.

Sounds exactly why there's so many UP Customers who are already suing the Carrier.

Let's fine everyone a storage fee after we blatantly over deliver the trailers/cars to the yard knowing full well the industries/truckers can't take it all at once.

One way to chase off the shippers and give the truckers the freight.

UP is on the way down hill fast.

Go find another job fast.

This will be one of the reasons truck traffic will increase in these areas. Increased congestion and a degradation of roads.
