I mean I can’t seem to think of anybody at my location that is even close to being satisfied working at this place and the people at this board certainly have nothing good to say about the company. Really curious to know if there is any part of the company where people are not unhappy?

All the Execs should be embarrassed. HAMR what a joke !! This Co is a has been you should all get out before you get the life s—ed out of you.
@Z%ckgs, Your BS call is wrong. Multiple 20+ Eng here, (not in GOBC) that like their jobs. That’s a fact. Anyway, anyone 5 yrs ish, that are so suffering, should check out Cypress.
Cutting-edge technology, extremely progressive management style, endless positivity, endless opportunity for advancement.
If you can't make it at Seagate, it might be time for you to go.
If you are one of the rare ones that are favored with regular raises and promotions and as much vacation as you want then you might be happy. There are some like that. Time to look around you though at your co-workers and look how they are doing. Stagnating for years with no promotions, frustrated, unable to take the time off that you get to enjoy? Or, perhaps almost everyone you have worked with is new because the rest were laid off or quit long ago? People living in a protective bubble have a hard time looking outside it.
I call BS. I don't know anyone 20 years at Seagate that's happy. I hardly know anyone 5 years in that's happy.
Wow! So, negative here. I don’t know your situation, but I love working at Seagate. Interesting work, good people, good pay, good vacation, good boss. Eng 20+ years, I’m not HR.
Those higher always get all the credit. You just have to be a good brownoser and a—kisser long enough for them to realize your making them look good to get promoted, which typically never happens !
Whatever my VP does, I don't know because absolutely zero changes pass down to engineer level that change anything about what we do over years of time. All positive improvements to the process have come from people at the bottom... underpaid people that are allowed to work on ideas to make things better.
It is incredible how much time is wasted on non value activities by VP and Directors. Nothing or little to improve the company and just status quo with the mission to drive out good people so they do not threaten the jobs of current "leaders". I do not understand why the CEO does not see this - seems so obvious to everyone at my site.
They haven't figured out how to weed out con artists and bs artists, and instead they end up promoted. Without someone who can ID real talent and not fall for 2 bit con games at the top, this is what you get.
Sh–ty management destroyed the company !
I enjoy my job and am thankful for opportunities that allowed me to create and develop neat stuff over the years. With that said, you are only one bonehead Director away from ruining the experience when they refuse to even bother to meet with you and understand your role in the dept over the years. IMO, the promotion of incompetent, or by favoritism, Managers to Director is one of the biggest contributions to the overwhelming dissatisfaction by employees in this company.
Firmware guys in India already put plenty of bugs in the firmware without even trying to do so. That is why the company is so f—ed up, because of outsourcing work there.
The "just quit" people make it all so simple. Uprooting your family and moving and starting a job in a new industry isn't a quick and easy for everyone and isn't simply your choice alone. Pointing out observations about how the company is failing does not necessarily mean you are a suffering miserable wreck all the time. Constantly running away from things you think are stupid isn't always the best strategy. It could be worse elsewhere. So there should have never been unions formed to fight workplace abuses in the past then based on your view? Didn't they have a choice to go elsewhere, or maybe not? Perhaps we are just laughing to ourselves about how stupid it all is and while we ride out the end of our career in amusement at all you clowns. The work at Seagate can be quite enjoyable and the rest is a nice piece of side entertainment. Also, there's so much in life to enjoy OUTSIDE of work to make what ever problems at work easier to deal with.
USA is still a capitalism country man. You can achieve maximum potential according to your ability.
If you don't like your job or your company and you are suffering daily, it's your problem. You have only yourself to blame.
Firmware guys need to be creative and put bugs in code that hits the company in the groin
You know, it doesn't seem that messed up until you read a comment like the dystopian one and go...wow, yeah, that's basically what's been going on
If anyone wonders what it is like to live in a dystopian world with Big Brother watching EVERYTHING, controlling every move, receiving criticism from 3-4 angles and directors regarding the smallest actions, them trying to mold your personality through coerscive and desceptive psych tests, destroying peer relationships through forced, gang peer management, this is the place to be. The management of this company is insane. I would advice that no company should hire former managers from this company unless you want to destroy your company's culture and creativity. The managers who have survived the layoffs over the years are experts at playing "The Hunger Games."
Insanity!
Im not even a manager and I’m made responsible to harass people who don’t work for me to get work done. Meanwhile their real managers appear immune from any actual responsibility. Everything’s delegated so they can fly around acting like big shots and inject themselves in every hot topic to get attention and favor from above.
Honestly the dynamic seemed to change a lot over the past 10 years. Sure it wasn't rainbows and sunshine then, but people seemed relatively happy and ready to work and collaborate. The big layoffs a few years ago really diminished the mood, and it's been downhill fast since. People are overworked and underappreciated, feel like they're coming to work just to get yelled at. Who has time to be positive? Meanwhile being tasked with linkedin learning which does nothing but make a manager look 'good'...what a waste. Managers tasking employees with holding other employees accountable for work makes for poor collaboration. Not to mention...isn't that a management responsibility? Had two good managers, a bad one, and now an awful one. At least with good ones it was bearable. Looking to get out now that I feel I can't trust my manager.
The autocratic centralized management system is most dominant. If you find yourself as a subject matter expert often being given "solutions" from above without your input even being requested you may work in an autocratic system. If you, with an an arsenal of degrees and skills in an area, are never asked if you can find a better way to do something and how you would do it, you might work in an autocratic system. If your ideas of how do do something better and more efficient are waved off while the management focuses on top down projects, you may work in an autocratic system. If those top down projects never materialize any changes or inputs from you actually doing the primary tasks and functions of the department, you may work in an autocratic system. If your degrees, experience, and years of contributions go unacknowledged and are never called on, but instead your VP constantly sends you recommendations for you to take certification classes in your field of expertise, you may work in an autocratic system. If you take the certification classes and you are never asked or allowed to apply anything you learned that would result in bottom up change to any process or system, you may work in an autocratic system. If you suggest some changes to improve capability, and it's laughed away and dismissed only to return a year later as another managers great idea, you may work in an autocratic system.
Management group is damn happy & satisfy to work in seagate.
It's hard to believe anything we are fed by Directors and above. IMO, many are too tone deaf to understand their reports feedback. The micro survey is a joke at this point IMO.
Outdated technology, extremely outdated management style, endless negativity, endless layoffs. It is time to go.
Ask your HR business partner and they will give you the details of who. If you are a lower level mgr they may not tell you. If they want the truth it should be run by a third party.
Well if they are still there they are satisfied enough not to quit yet I guess. People are negative because they actually like the company and have invested many years in it. It makes us mad to see it destroyed by greed and mismanagement from top.
How is it not anonymous? I can't see my employees.
The micro survey shows favorability because it is not anonymous and your managers uses it to penalize or rif you, not to improve themselves. You have to have a deathwish to be negative on the survey.
I enjoy my work at Seagate and the survey shows most people do too. Even if you take into account statistically the people who lie or don't take the survey, its way too high to be false. Many people on this site are negative to begin with. I worry about my job being laid off so I come here but I am happy and hope the company does not have to fire me.
It's a vile poisonous atmosphere in Seagate Derry.A company so top heavy that senior staff members have so little to do that they can partake in any charity, fitness, walks,"community projects" that are happening during work hours. There are people that just roam the corridors day in day out. These people get paid for this while the floor workers get overworked and underpaid. This company will die quicker while they still pay these people for doing little or nothing at all.Cronyism is a huge problem here. They rehired staff that they made redundant three years ago. These jobs were not advertised,Seagate management got in contact with these people and offered them a job. That has to be illegal in employment laws.
Toxic is an understatement.
The culture is terrible, seems like most are waiting for a package to take an extended leave or retire, the rest just do not care about the company and the lies the execs tell. I am looking for a job to get out of this toxic place, hope to be gone in a month. I have sold all my stx stock and just do not see this company going anywhere but down.
Another jackhole from WDC.
Go spread discontent somewhere else.
