Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Question for people who quit - what was the final straw?

I'm really close to making that same decision, but I'm not there just yet. What made you decide to leave?

I worked at Anthem nearly 20 years in a various departments and lines of business. I always liked my managers - except one a few years ago and she was just literally not a nice person at all.
My final straw about 2 months ago - rude, non-helpful, non-responsive, blaming, and IMO no clue what they were doing team lead. In addition, the department I worked in had an inexplicable amount of red tape - just to have 1 question answered. No feedback regarding possible process improvements or even suggestion were ever acknowledged.
I was admonished via email more times than I can count. I was crying daily, because I have always taken pride in my work. But in this specific area, it's nearly impossible to do well, because when you do make a mistake, it stays with you on and on.
I had a family death, a parent to be more specific...my production dropped following bereavement guess what happened...PIP. For the 1st time in my ENTIRE CAREER at Anthem I was on corrective action. I have been in leadership roles, individual contributor roles and production roles. I was completely floored. I fully realize that my manager was only doing their job, but I am also fully aware that there is the ability for leaders to exercise discretion. That is why I was so upset.
It was not an easy decision. I was paid very well, good benefits, full time OPW, all Amazon perks. But...in the end if you can't sleep at night, and when you wake up after the 2 or 3 hours you managed to get with that God awful anxious/fear feeling in your stomach it's time to re-evaluate. My pay, working at home, all the good things....didn't come close to the horrible things I had been going through. Money will never buy your sanity and I was about to lose my damn mind!!

What kind of question is that? Are you one of the NEW management, looking for a way to torture the rest of us until you get all the workers without visa's gone?

Got bored of the work. Anthem was my first job out of college. I was there for two years as an analyst. I had the same tasks to do every month, quarter, year, and it was just getting dull. Cozy but dull; my manager was the best but there was nothing they could really do to muster up some interesting projects in that department.

I was mentally unstimulated so I put out some feelers for a new job. Also there was a creepy dude in my office that once asked when he could take me to the beach and rub coconut oil on me sooo... bye!

The bullying was tough. Verbal threats from team leads to always hurry, hurry, hurry. The requirements were vague. The chosen technology was often misfit. Millions of dollar wasted while traumatizing workers. It is hard to perform well when you are treated poorly. The culture is all wrong. My life is better now without Anthem.

Toxic culture, especially under Gail. No career growth. Constant looming threats of layoffs. Restrictions on work from home for some people and not others. Confusing and often changing directives from management. I could go on and on, but in the end it really took a toll on my mental health. After a year of looking I accepted a job and the difference is night and day. I’m so happy I left this dump.

When I had my fourth boss in 11 months. The new boss was supposed to reach out and get our new team going, but then it was crickets for literally a month. The writing was on the wall that we were going to be RIF'd, so I jumped to a different company.

lack of appreciation for the hard work I put in. If you’re debating it just do it. Plenty of companies out there much better than anthem

I'm sure there are people who are no longer with Anthem who still occasionally visit this page - so please share.
