I'd just like to know if some people have competent and knowledgeable managers who actually help them, instead of being an actual hindrance?

What? Where do you people work? Or, maybe you’re WD, or short sellers. In my building, direct sup are good and very competent.
Sh– for brains managers - all of them !
Such good employee deserve better. It’s a blessing he can finally move on.
I'm in IT. My manager who sadly was impacted in the July 1 RIF, was hands-down best manager I ever had. Technically savvy, juggled a sh–load of projects, and shielded his people from above so they could get work done. Empowered his people and valued their input. Didn't micromanage at all.
I keep in mind, it is just a job now. You don't get to have ownership over anything. Just show up and go home. As far as the boss, 3 directors in 6 months. New one has no clue what I do and I am wondering why I work for them. Oh well, I am close to retirement and I will just enjoy. Best of luck to rest of you at Seagate. Maybe I get one of those new temp jobs.
If we know the C levels arent going anywhere, how do we manage upwards the douche directors? Form a Seagate Union?
we manage upward at Seagate. The lower level managers are handlers trying to turn back dumb directives from above.
What department do you work in?
Outside of some admin stuff that their boss probably doesn't want to d--k with, my manager serves no useful purpose at all.
Why don’t you just leave ? Unemployment is at a historic low. Says something about you doesn’t it ?
There are no competent managers, only stupid puppets that do the bidding of the executives to kept their job. They will say and do anything and everything just to cover their own a-- and tow the company line corporate b---s--- !
