Sadly it is because company doesn't want to keep experienced people. Lay off all the experienced people because they are supposedly too expensive. And then watch all the remaining skilled people become disaffected and walk away. Hire monkeys if you really wanna save money. Would be next logical step in company strategy.

I think if one is over 50 you should not be looking for another job. It seems pointless. Ageism is everywhere. No one wants anyone “older.” Unlike places such as Asia, older people are not valued, respected, etc in our culture.

I was one of the very experienced people layed off. I was highly valued (I say this because I consistently received “1” ratings) but current management no longer valued truths/opinions that differed from their’s.
Say what you will about prior executive management, but they at least listened to people.
Being let go was painful, but the grass is greener. Our current leaders are poison.
As one of the skilled people that walked away let me say it was worth it. There are lots of companies out there that recognize the value of skill and experience versus valuing bobble headed yes men who just pander to their bosses ideas.
