Target is down a couple hours it’s all over the news, Sears is down 3 days before anyone notices and reports on it. And it’s not even reported by the major news outlets. This is how irrelevant Sears is folks. Eddie is the biggest laughing stock in the history of retail or any other industry, for that matter.

Oh it was a fiasco for store level employees everyone that tried to call the appropriate numbers for online orders or ROR, delivery, syw etc..or actual "members" coming in to buy something that couldn't get a reliable delivery date and any kenmore made by Frigidaire for sure isn't coming but we're still showing it off like we sell it for some reason....is everyone that incompetent that is still working at headquarters?.....this is for sure a dog and pony show there is no effort to return to profitability from the full line stores guaranteed literally would've been better off shutting down completely and re-opening the small format stores later than just digging you're grave further and further even the most loyal "members" are saying ya Lowe's is sounding pretty good now the company is trash and will never be profitable again in a retail standpoint anyway.....they are giving employees first dibs at the 90% off VOM stuff they roll out every week....why put stuff at 90% clearance because it's VOM when there's tons of shelf space to store it.....makes no sense unless you're planning on liquidating very soon

Right before I was laid off from my Sears I.T. position, the acting CIO told us, in an all dept meeting, to "just do what you can and the business folks have to understand that it might take days to fix things instead of hours"... after he said that, I tried to recall when a CIO ever said something like this to a group of employees... I worked in IT for over 40 years with multiple companies and I never, ever... heard anyone wave the white flag like this ... that's when I knew the end was near. I think it was David Coriat but I could be wrong... so this does not surprise me to read about system failure.

My guess is that this Point of sale, POS system never had a chance since 2001. Just get out while you still can. If you can. Run Forest Run!

The best part was during the day we couldn't take credit or debit, we got messages from on high that we were NOT allowed to put up any signage indicating as much. Instead, all we were allowed to do was make periodic announcements that we couldn't take those forms of payment due to "upgrades." They had us lying through our teeth. Great way to create that wow customer experience.

I usually don’t wish harm on anyone but this brought a big smile to my face. I am one of the people who knew some of these systems like the back of my hand. I started working with Sears in the mid ‘90s and witnessed the destruction from Eddie first hand after the merger. My job was outsourced a few years back and the outsourcing company let me go in favor of labor from India with very little knowledge of any Sears systems. But as I was told as I got walked out of Hoffman Estates - “no hard feelings, it’s just business.” Congrats Eddie, you deserve this one! It’s just business!

DOS? We wish. Sears IT is a clusterf--k of four decades of Enterprise IT and custom solutions. Mainframes, web services, Hadoop, Ariba, EDI, middleware solutions, with a sh--load of Java and Webmethods, countless generations of databases, merchant services, BI analytics, and of course everyone who knew their small little piece of it got laid off, fled, or went with their vendor just like others said. The cub scout running the rusted aircraft carrier analogy is perfect.

Is this a company wide problem, or just affecting the stores that will be closing soon

DOS? That’s good actually. A bigger retailer (bigger than sears) still uses some system built in cobal/FORTRAN which no one knows how to fix. Some major fast food chains still have 386s in the register terminals.

Like every other company they depend on computers and have no way around. Sears system is still in DOS, what makes nightmare for these new kids on the block. I don't think they are going to recover easy from this failure, even if they invest more. Situation is equal when human body stops blood circulation. Et one point brain just get dead. I talked to some colleagues who are still inside "hell". Some of service techs did not get even 5 work hours this week and panic is growing.

The decision to cut IT staff leading to this debacle is a microcosm of the way Eddie and has run Sears for the last fifteen years. He's cut and cut and refused to invested until he's left with a team of Cub scouts trying to run a rusted broken down aircraft carrier. Everyone has told him he's needed to invest every step of the way, but it's always fallen on his hubris and deaf ear. It's too little too late. $1,000 problems become $1B ones because a stich in time saves nine. The people who know how to keep Sears' logistics and backends running are gone and they aren't coming back. There's a thousand single points of failure, and this could happen again at any time. Eddie's been trying to replace it all since he acquired the company. He's still at square one, because he has no idea what he's doing, and doesn't even know enough to hire the right people who can hire the right people, surrounding himself with incompent yes men. Eddie's goal has been to run Sears with operational excellence. What a joke.

I saw that article... unless I’m the only one still having issues at corporate (which I doubt), the issue has not been resolved
