Thread regarding CVS layoffs

If you don't like CVS schedule, leave

Here’s a solution, get out of retail. It’s not a Monday-Friday 9-5 job. It’s a business that’s open 7-10, and 365 a year. You aren’t smart if you think there should be some clear cut rules about availability. Retail is one of the most remedial and replaceable forms of employment. Quit being whiny little babies, and look for a job outside of it. It isn’t going to be far, your weekends aren’t going to be rotated. Your schedule will be made based on your availability and the needs of the business. You need some time off? Request it, it’ll be approved or denied. What’s so hard to accept and understand? If you don’t like it, then leave.

I hate to tell you but I have worked for three different retailers and retail is retail and CVS isnt any different. Every retailer cuts payroll year after year, every retailer expects high service standards without understanding the daily ins and outs, every retailer has weekly meetings and conference calls, every retailer has scheduling systems that are supposed to be followed, every retailer has field leaders coming in all the time. It is retail and there is no CVS retail. Trust me that unless you are going g to leave retail all together, the grass is not greener. Sorry to burst any bubbles.

okay, I hope this is an upper management person saying “stop whining like little babies” u can eat sh-- and die. There are people out there that do care about their patients/customers and have no choice but to use CVS because they have Caremark insurance. When you (meaning me) live in a small town with only 2 other pharmacies, we really don’t have much of a choice.. so take your comment and shove it up your a--. 👍

To the manager who said he "values seniority and hard work", I applaud you sir! Not all managers are like that. I wish they were. My experience is that hard work doesn't always equate to good things from your manager. Sadly for some managers it's a popularity contest.

OR some might actually be hard workers, getting screwed over because they're not the "bosses pet!" Some people just know how to manipulate the boss to get whatever they want!

Personally I value you seniority and hard work. If you’ve been around the longest and are a heck of a worker than you’ll got most of the shifts you want. If you aren’t a good worker and i would to weed you out at some point then you’ll get whatever shifts I need covered until the work ethic improves or you quit. I wonder how many people complaining about their schedule here are the lazy workers that their manager is trying to get rid of???

I'm going to make an assumption that the people complaining about hours, have BAD managers who only stick them on c-appy shifts, like all nights and all weekends. To be honest, NOBODY should ever get stuck on straight nights or straight weekends. Yes the stores are open those times, and yes people need to work them. I don't understand why people can't rotate? One weekend on, one weekend off. What's so hard about that? Or rotate nights shifts, so no one does more than 2 nights a week. Seriously people, what's so wrong about rotating? (unless you don't have enough people to do that)

I don’t know why everyone complains about the hours. If you have a strong crew that can multitask well then you don’t have a problem. If you have a weak crew then you need to replace them with employees that are stronger and work harder. I never work a minute over 45.

Yeah, as a current store manager I treat all of my employees with respect and try to accommodate their schedule as best I can. And you know what...I haven’t worked a Christmas Or Thanksgiving in 3 years. To the managers who have a “you work your schedule no matter what time I put you on” mentality, I bet you work EVERY holiday EVERY year.

Yeah, OP you are so wrong. You are probably a manager who tries to get your shifts to close every night while you work 7-12 everyday

Except this is not regular retail we’re talking about, this is CVS RETAIL! (Or retail done the cvs way) There IS a difference. And anyone who works here knows exactly what retail the “cvs way” means. Cvs is retail on steroids! How so? Consider this... crazy unrealistic expectations, hours cut down to absolute nothing, catching hell for only 15 minutes of OT, meetings about meetings, conference calls about conference calls, unreachable customer service targets (think 100% ALL the time), pressure to ALWAYS be at the store, upper management (like DL, RD, VP) who have no idea how long it takes to get things done, etc, etc, etc. That’s just a small taste of retail on steroids at cvs! Need I say more?
