As a retiree recently hired part-time at a B&N location (one that is actively hiring more staff as of June 2019), I’m sorry to read about the struggles other B&N employees are having at other sites. My site’s managers are lovely and kind, and all of my coworkers are a pleasure to work with. Most of my coworkers are college or graduate school attendees who are working part time while in school, not looking for careers with BN.
The morale of any business relies not only on the attitudes of its managers, but of the attitudes of its employees. Everyone contributes to the job environment: if you’re a whiner or complainer, you might want to check yourself out to see if it’s your toxicity adding to your work “unhappiness.”
I get that many of you may not have great bosses coworkers- if that’s the case, should you be looking for jobs elsewhere?
The real issue present in retail work in America is not BN’s fault: it’s that minimum wage has not increased to keep up with inflation.
