Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Lawsuit?

Does anyone know if others are going to an attorney for age discrimination? What attorney are you/they using?

They could win this but it will take a long time. They picked off a person or two who wasn’t old but the older employees that I know of who were kept either don’t have a pension or have been there over 30 years. There was no real financial benefit to firing those people. It doesn’t appear that this was only about age. It seems that avoiding larger long term pensions could have been the goal. The people who were approaching larger pensions just happen to be older.

The Mike Morse Law Firm is another option, they are hiring.

Yep, I see all the legal trolls (law firms trying to sign up new clients) are on a roll here.

Will you get anywhere with age discrimination lawsuit - maybe. Will it be a massive headache and take years to resolve before you see a payout - absolutely yes. Ford was careful about selecting everyone from each demographics and having sign off on a severance or buyout offer. Even if you can prove it was age discrimination it will be a class action lawsuit meaning the plaintiffs will get small settlement (maybe as much as their severanace). But the lawyers will take make their multi-million dollar cut from the class action settlement.

I know some of the former have contacted Sam, but it wasn't because of age.

You are required to sign a waiver saying you will not sue ford if you want the severance package. I was let go and received a spreadsheet with the job families and ages of those let go. In my area the over 55 crowd took a very heavy hit but they obviously gave it careful thought as there was at least one person from each “demographic”. They took at least one from each race, religion, gender and s-xual preference.

I’m not going to waste time suing because I doubt it would produce results and it would have me thinking about this for years. I’m moving forward and will do well.

I doubt you will win - I'm 30 and I was let go along with younger workers. I believe they were smart and hit every demographic to avoid a lawsuit. I would just move on if I was in your shoes - I had to take pay cut (~ 15%) but already lined up a job with much more potential growth with a large organization that results are valued over a-- kissing. Yes, it will be longer hours and more difficult but to be honest I'm happy to be out of Ford in a job that challenges me and allows me to grow. All the best!

I wish you could but you will not be able to win this case. Ford was smart and left a bunch of older workers hang around until the next round of layoffs.

Even though it is funny how Ford is hiring a lot of young new people to fill positions of people who were let go because "There jobs were being eliminated".
