Dear Colleagues
The company's relentless downsizing of UK positions has now taken on a new turn. Having informed the government and unions that as many as 2150 jobs could go, to date there has been 1000+ voluntary redundancy applications. Before even the VR exercise was completed management have now announced a proposal that involves compulsory redundancies across the company and including shutting the Chesterfield Regional Delivery Centre.
This would only leave Newcastle, Erskine, Chorley and Aldershot as UK Regional Delivery Centres. Outside of the UK the only other country with a large non digital service based is the U.S. and there engineers are working a day free to save their jobs and agreeing terms and conditions reductions.
The Union will run a campaign to save Chesterfield as we have done previously; the clients are predominantly public sector and are highly sensitive accounts.
Chesterfield employs over 300 workers and the work cannot be offshored in most cases.
The Company's objective is to transfer to digital working as quickly as possible. Yet, among the voluntary redundancy applications are numerous employees with digital skills. It is not easy to work out the company's real objectives. Certainly, with such large cuts the pressures on those with jobs is clear. Many managers have expressed concerns at being able to deliver for clients. Nobody can be certain that anywhere is truly safe. If DXC colleagues who are not in a union approach you or you are talking to them please direct them to join Unite at www.unitetheunion.org/join
