My manager didn't have the balls so his manager did it for him. Absolutely pathetic

Unfortunately, as spread out as we are in the U.S. and no offices to even go into these days, many of these notifications do happen over the phone.
When I was "made redundant" about 4 months ago my manager arranged a meeting in a DXC office. When I arrived a HR rep was in the office. At precisely 1pm my manager called me and read the script... (The usual blah blah) Thing is I never met this manager face to face and he had been my manager for almost 18 months. Apparently he's very busy (& a coward) He did the same to two other people I know of
In the past I had to do the same to 3 people. I met them face to face and went through the process.
I really don't understand how a so called manager can give someone the news over the phone. It reminded my of the movie "UP IN THE AIR"...
In some cases no one lets you know. You come in one day and IF your badge access still works you cannot login to your system. You have to actually inquire if you are still on the payroll.
The manager assigned to you is supposed to let you know, whether you've ever talked to them, or not.
