Breaking Maintenance Contracts

We just learned that Field Ops is now in the process of breaking maintenance contracts with certain customers because they don't have the manpower to meet the obligations of having someone on site and they don't want to be held to the response time and callout obligations, due to the end of standby pay and only allowing callouts to 911 centers.

Anyone have any input on this? Is it just Mid-Atlantic or is this happening in all areas?

To much baby sitting and hand holding involved in PSAP CPE for the company to have any interest in it now. VERIZON got out of it and now CTL will as well. Good riddance I say. All CTL wants is the last mile and transport portion of the PSAPs networks.

I sold all of my CTL stock a couple weeks ago. They're marching with FTR and WIN. 5G isn't rolling out fast enough.

We take 911 callouts because we are contractually obligated and we can't afford to get our asses sued off by any more centers than are already suing us. These centers cost the company more money than you know. Sure, the equipment is expensive and the maint contracts are lucrative, but when it all comes out in the wash after expenses to hold their hands, respond to all their alarms and problems, real or not, it is pretty much at a break even point.

But, then add in the lawsuits for all the various reasons and what we pay to settle them, and then you start looking at negative numbers.

Anyone who thinks we make money selling 911 equipment is way off base.

Last time we had a six hour outage in 2014 it cost the company 18 million dollars !!! Based on that we are in line for about 150 million dollar fine for the outage the FCC is STILL investigating

Yeah we have such a stellar 911 record don't we? How much you think we were fined for a 50 hour outage across several states? And we had the audacity to actually tell people if they had a real emergency they needed to drive to nearest police or fire station !!!! ....After last years 911 debacle ,it would not surprise me in the least that they have or are thinking about getting out of it....

We just actually discussed this in a meeting ans we were told they are screening 911 callouts amd anything that is not deemed critical such as a down position, down trunk or alarms are going to be held till next business day.

Thats not we were told. 911 contracts are very lucrative. That's why we take call outs

I don't know about breaking contracts so to speak, but i do know they have talked at length about cancelling all the 911 center contracts.
