I just assumed it was a job that consisted entirely of pointless conference calls and meaningless buzzwords.

Hey @Z5WRjYa-2qff ... Anthem switching to Agile and hiring a bunch of Scrum Masters is another reason why people are losing their jobs .... set your emotions in check and re-direct it towards Anthem and not the people who takes their time to post their opinions here ... better yet, why don't you start up some kind of movement against Anthem and I'm sure we will back you up ....
People are losing their jobs and you are commenting about scrum masters - seriously - heartless callous.
Complete waste of money because they don't really do anything....
It depends on the scrum master. At Anthem some of them did more harm than good by telling the team NOT to document anything. Also, lots of knowledge and documentation was never shared. User stories incomplete. Details were in people's emails and they come and go. Hardly anything was delivered. It was worse than waterfall.
Well in Anthem, we have been assigned a Scrum Master who basically is basically a glorified secretary who conducts daily meetings and takes notes of what we are doing and log them to JIRA and then reports it out to our Manager. At least for our Team this is what is happening. Curious on how other Teams in IT are doing it.
The whole point of agility is that anyone on the team can be a scrum master. Scrums aren't that long by definition. If you have a designated scrum master, you're doing it wrong.
I also agree ... have nothing against Scrum Masters and some of them are really nice and good people. But honestly, they don't code, they don't know our Business processes and the only thing they bring to the table is their knowledge of Agile and JIRA which in my opinion is also a big waste of money and resource. Now we are also obligated to attend this daily 15 minute meetings to report what team members did yesterday, today and tomorrow. Really !!!!!
a complete waste of both time and resources. imho
