Windstream used to be a place I was proud to come to everyday and excited for the work that we were doing. I have been a very loyal and positive influencial employee for the last 25+ years. Always trying to look at the positive, but it has been hard to do lately.
I have seen the morale in IT go down more and more every year for the last 5 or so years. We are treated like our opinions don't matter and when suggesting ideas or bringing up concerns, we are thought of as negative. The best solutions come out of collaboration with multiple team members opinions. A great example of this is when the vendor was chosen for Dragonfly. This vendor choice was disliked by most and after seeing it demo'd within the first few months, most IT and business said it was "awful" and "difficult" to work in. Now, here we are 3 1/2 years later with <10 orders done in production, those top execs are finally seeing what we all saw way back when... but were looked at as Nay sayers!!!
We have a great IT team but no matter how hard we try to keep our heads up and work harder than we ever have... The stress of the working environment, impossible deadlines, lack of appreciation, lack of confidence by Executive management and the extremely poor morale is making it hard to stay positive.
It doesn't help that we haven't seen increases the last 3 years and were told that they are no longer in our future...
It also doesn't help that we push through working 60/70 hour work weeks wondering what our future holds(do we stick it out or not), then we see the execs getting millions of dollars for "motivation".. Where is our motivation? Oh that's right .. We get a paycheck.. Why is that not motivation enough for those precious Execs?
I have not heard from our new CIO since he took over which is disappointing. Shouldn't he be coming to the IT sites and motivating us and showing some appreciation for all the work we keep doing with an uncertain future. The morale can only go up from here, right? It needs to start from the top as I believe that is the source of the problem.
