Where to apply for a job after the party is over?

A lot of questions come to mind. How is the job market in the business doing these days? Is it wiser to try to apply for jobs at competitor companies or try to move to other industries( the ones that have that possibility)? What opinions do competitor companies have on ex Weatherford workers? Thoughts???

I would advise to leave the name WFT off the resume, then you will have a better chance at landing an interview.

If you’re looking for life after Weatherford and want to keep working on the patch, then make sure you are current regarding all your onshore and offshore certification. If you are an operator, Liner, Fishing, Drilling MWD/LWD, Completions, TRS, then you will have no problem finding work. Just be prepared to travel.

Weatherford should be making moves on pay rises to keep the skilled operational guys because if they lose any more of them then they are in big trouble. That revenue ain’t gonna earn itself.

I’ve been with Weatherford a long time and I know of maybe a handful of guys who have been promoted up into management. The rest have been fastracked in either through knowing someone, nepotism, or as is often the case you get some id--t that they don’t know what to do with and they promote him to get rid of him and pass the problem on to someone else, this is a classic Weatherford manovre. Then they wonder why moral is at rock bottom. Be honest with yourself and try and find any Weatherford managers that have got there by merit. Also regarding sales, do you know anyone in sales who can actually talk to a client and offer them solutions for their problems? I know I don’t, the sales people I know really don’t understand the work we do other than on a very superficial level. They don’t know what the client is looking for or what to offer in the way of solutions because they have no background in the oilfield. This will all have to change if Weatherford is to survive.

What about field guys that worked their way into management and sales? I have got more offers today than ever before. Maybe WFT does excel in some areas and we are worth having at a different company. All small little companies go after the big boys, less overhead can win the short term, but will they handle the long term? When you underprice and try to run out the big boys, you make it where your bankroll can't support you. Do you realize we were able to rin up 7B in debt. What company besides the big boys can do that. Now we debt free and looking at the bright future ahead of us. Thank you, next!

You should have asked this question to yourself a few years ago. I still can’t believe those who stayed at WFT thinking everything was going to be fine. Instead of doing things on your own terms, now you are pushed to get a job anywhere.

If you’re an operational guy from one of the divisions then you should be ok. Takes a lot of money to train up a field guy and get all the relevant certification. No problem finding another job on the patch. If gob forbid you are Weatherford sales or a manager then the other service companies are going to laugh in your face, better try Walmart or try pan handling because you ain’t good for much else.
