Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

There comes a time when technology seems to help business owners more than the workers

Technology is a great thing. However there comes a time when technology seems to help business owners more than the workers. I've been with Walmart for 30 years. I can remember how difficult it was before new tools and processes. There has been a reduction in staff through the years as technology made their jobs no longer necessary. I have seen a store go from over 300 associates to under 150. Technology made many jobs easier. But in a small community where Walmart is the main work place, technology can be the enemy. A store I know is going from 20 registers to 5. The rest will be self checkout. Use to cashier was the safest place to be. After all you have to have cashiers, right? Wrong. No job is safe anymore. In the long run technology will be the down fall of some great companies. Not just Walmart. But others as well. The desire for more profit will be too strong. And more job losses will help with their profits. But when the small communities start to feel the effects of job losses, and people are forced to seek employment elsewhere, some people will move to where jobs are. Stores in these communities will feel it. And profits will go down due to loss of sales. Then these stores that were once highly profitable will ultimately meet their doom and be closed, thanks to technology.

Part of the manual dexterity of fingers comes from how your brain thinks. Not everyone's fingers move the same because not everyone thinks the same. Look at athletes and how their manual dexterity of there fingers is different from others. Doctor's manual dexterity is different from an athlete.

In all honesty people really do want to work and take pride in earning a living and being loyal to a company.

Robots are going to be so powerful they will end up k--ling their human creators. I guess we could send them to war to save American Human life. The way the world is going we will not have to worry about over population but maybe poverty, homelessness and hunger again. I see why they want an automation tax. Good idea.

You know I think Sam Walton valued his employees and felt they were vital to the success of his business. That is why he valued loyalty from his employees that put in many years of service with loyalty bonuses. In today's world I think we are saying people are expendable ( not important, worthless). That is sad. A person's loyalty and service is it worth anything anymore than an early servance or an oops we schedule to work but did not tell you so your fired. SAD!!!!

Wal-Mart employees spend their Wal-Mart paychecks in Wal mart stores or at least the ones who work in actual stores do. Machines do not give you money back. Sold your soul to the company store as the saying goes.

Wal mart has Feed America. What about feed Wal-Mart workers who have been replaced or downsized in job or hours.

I agree people need to be paid for just being human. They say birth rates have been declining. We are losing a valuable natural resource- human beings.

It is great to plan for tomorrow technology but you also have to live with today's retail needs. I think that maybe overlooked and too much emphasis is being placed on technology and futuristic ideas..ll

Truth. Without jobs, there is no income. Without income, there is no spending. Without spending, there are no solvent companies.
