Oh, thanks for the clarification. I thought perhaps that if you took the severance, that was it, no unemployment period.

You can collect unemployment after the 1 month. So if your severance is 1 month, you cannot collect unemployment until after the 1 month. If your severance is 3 months you can collect unemployment after 3 months. The company hopes most people have found a new job by the time the severance runs out. Usually the more years of service you have the longer it will take to find a new job.

I am curious about this. I'm hoping for the best, but in the event that I get let go, I think I'd only be getting one month of severance. That's really not worth it to me if it means that I could not also collect unemployment. Is there an option to just not sign whatever package they offer you if it means that you cannot collect unemployment? I assume at that point you would just be fired outright?

The severance package are pretty weak (GM actually offered better packages to their employees). Any chance it is negotiable. Do you have the right to hold on signing it immediately to talk to lawyer?

Hmmm that lawsuit was before my time. We still do ABC only now we call it TA-A-LA. We still favor one class of people and disfavor another, only the flavors have changed.

There is no bargaining..... Either your sign and get the package or don't sign and get nothing. That's it. That's the deal.

You can cross out the things you do not like, initial the crossed out areas, put right above your signature a sentence to the effect that modifications above made before agreement and signing.

The things referred to here are widely cast lawyer statements such as - can’t work for competitor for 2 years - cannot use any knowledge gained on job at another job. Replace these with cannot use Ford confidential information for future gain etc.

I am 55 with 35 years. Can I bargain the package?

Is there even a choice? If you get selected to go, you are gone.

Is there bargaining? Can you bargain. Would it be different between a termination and a retirement?

Can you bargain in a forced retirement? That is what I would like to know.

lawyers cost $1000 per day... go ahead hire a lawyer while you collect unemployement of 1000 per month... not worth it my friends

Good luck with that. I doubt they would do anything that could lead to lawsuits.
