Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Does TR not lay-off new hires (<2 yrs with TR)?

I don’t believe they touch new hires. Veterans are usually picked first. No worries, you will be fine.

I am surprised to learn this.

I was laid off 13 months after I was hired. Department was outsourced and reduced in size. I didn't make the cut.

It is fun to see the game if you are not too cash strapped. I would save every dollar you earn. Cause you are gonna need it. Don’t plan anything big: house, new car, baby. If you have rich parents, you can. Going through layoffs are going to be part of life experience now.

Oh, yes, they do lay off new hires. A guy in my department who was there less than a year was let go along with several veterans of 10+ years, and others who'd been there five years or less. It was all about the re-org. If you didn't fit in the new world, you were gone.

Seriously, it is the same everywhere. Does not matter if you are new hire or a veteran. At the least, the veterans get nice packages but new hires don't because of seniority.

If I were you, I look at the prospect of the group you are under and the potential for career growth instead of worrying being let go. After all, you need to keep a positive and optimistic mind to go to work instead if worrying about something you can't control.

It's not true. If what you're working on is moved our canned you're going to be out of a job regardless. I've personally seen at least a few new college grads be let go, including one guy who was only on the job for a couple months
