Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

No good alternative

I've been sending out my resumes for the past several months, testing out the water, and what I'm finding is really not good.

There don't seem to be that many available jobs - no matter what the economy numbers are saying. And even when I was able to get offers, the pay was significantly lower than what I'm making at Seagate.

I'll be honest, I've never been this scared of being laid off as I am now.

Don't worry, the more layoffs you go through, you'll get use to it.

Make yourself more valuable. Remember that over a certain level that up to half your additional income goes right to government. When you get a 10k bonus and see a check for only 6k I’m sure you see that.

I was laid off from Longmont last year and it took more than 6 months to find a job in what people call a great job market for job seekers. Here is what I learned:

  1. Seagate is considered old tech and not a great name on your resume unless looking for a job at other old tech companies like ibm, Dell, etc.

  2. You will find a job if you move to a different state.

  3. STX is not viewed as a well run tech company so if you are in management this is another negative working against you.

  4. You might make less money but will be happier in a better run company that is growing and not shrinking.

  5. I wish I spent more time keeping my resume up to date and networking before I was laid off.

  6. Companies are not loyal to you so why are employees so loyal to companies. Think about this and may give you a kick to get started on your search.

Good luck everyone at is tough but there. I was able to stay in Colorado by getting a job through networking.

Given new job opportunity, why are you expecting even a same salary? Do u have relevant experience & competence?

Careful, working hard doesn't pay off as much as brown nosing and playing politics

@hmb

And you think those who got laid off earlier doesn't give their all to Seagate?

"And even when I was able to get offers, the pay was significantly lower than what I'm making at Seagate."

Makes you think maybe you should have worked a little harder when you given the gift of working at Seagate.

Wherever you go forgot any company loyalty and lookout for yourself. Always be job hunting even if you are happy with your current job.

Fortunately you are on track. Beats most who are waiting for the layoff pack.

Continue to look out and keep trying. Once you move on, you will look back regretting not not doing so earlier.
