What more could there possibly be? That IBM gets thousands of engineers? Already have them and it wouldn't cost $34B to hire more. That IBM can sell IBM products to RH customers and vice versa? The Venn diagram is basically two concentric circles already.
No, this deal was about a CoreOS->rkt->OpenShift->Ansible stack that allows enterprises to deploy containerized applications anywhere - on prem, multiple public clouds, any combination of the above - quickly and easily (lol). Google literally just announced they're doing the same exact thing. Since K8s is the centerpiece of this, and it was originally developed by Google, they're much better positioned than IBM. Of course, tech changes quickly and just as containers have replaced VMs as the "new hot thing" something else could come along tomorrow and render the whole strategy moot.
