Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

The reality of working at WIN

"Would anyone recommend working at Windstream"

You can go work there if you want an uncertain job situation. If they hire you, they could lay you off in a few months because of continuing 'cash problems'. Most groups you would work in - except the executive leadership - would have low morale. And that's from the people who like working there. Most everyone is down on the leadership - but if you want to do the job of 10 or 20 people that used to do the job - go ahead. You will learn a lot fast. Benefits are better than not having any, but the 401K is probably more like .401k if you use WIN stock.

If the company comes out of Chapter 11 in decent shape - always the possibility parts of the company get sold off to a better outfit that takes care of their employees and network - so you never know what can happen.

Good Luck!

This is sad but very true. Reposted from @Yit72Us-5qro

Here is what I see, Windsteam (LL) rebuilds the channel groups and requires them to have field tech and sales/post sales support. You could then outsource 50% CLEC empolyees ILEC no change. Once they get dragon*&^$ working then engineering and provisioning can be done automatically. You only need a human to make corrections and they have ILEC to do that. Overall if they could shed 9500 jobs, Windstream will survive. I currently work at nationwide company with over 65 sub sidarys, private owned and makes over 15B a year.

Besides the stream believers most people don't care about win anymore, they're just there collecting a paycheck until they find something else or get let go and hopefully get a severance. Morale is non-existent at this point.

"I don’t think Windstream is going to run out of operating cash anytime soon."

True, but more and more jobs in the company are being outsourced. They will in a couple of years be a bare-bones operation - if they haven't already sold off the profitable groups to get more cash to survive.

“ If you were hired right now you might not have a job after we run out of operating cash by July 1st”

I don’t think Windstream is going to run out of operating cash anytime soon. It now has 400 million to 1 billion in court-approved “debtor-in-possession” financing from Citibank to see it through the Chapter 11 process. This line of credit is at the head of the line ahead of all the other creditors.

I’m not saying that your job is safe - just that the company has temporary financial stability while it, the creditors and the court figure out what to do with it.

Your job may or may not last and you may or may not like the working conditions but there will be money to pay bills.

Where is that culture survey when we need it? Employee morale is in the toilet right now. No one wants to be here, We have already started to see the beginning of failure. Key people leaving without giving 2 weeks. If you were hired right now you might not have a job after we run out of operating cash by July 1st.
