Thread regarding Sears layoffs

SHLDQ stock

Normally when companies go bankrupt, the "Q" version of the stock eventually hits zero. But Sears is hanging in there. In fact it has some pretty good swings to trade on. Any chance it will be of some real value some day ?

You can read up on Seeking Alpha about the stock. There are a few articles and many many comments. Lots of sad people holding out hope because they're going to lose their investment.

Don't do it!!!!!

You stand a better chance of you bought anything else instead. Except for another bankrupt company of course.

SHLDQ is a shell with debt and legal costs.

Sears, Kmart , Innovel, Monark, A&E, SHIP, Parts Direct etc. are now all owned by Transform Holdco LLC, a private company owned by ESL which is owned by Eddie.

The only way he will ever IPO this is if the company starts to make money in which case he’d profit immensely, and he’d still retain controlling interest anyway.

They'll never make this company public again and that's what they want. No stock holders means less or almost no real accountability.

This is the most recent official statement the company provided to the SEC:

The Company does not believe that there will be sufficient funds or other assets in the Estate to allow holders of the Company’s common stock to receive any distribution of value in respect of their equity interests and expects to file a chapter 11 plan memorializing that belief in the coming weeks.

I invested in one bankrupt company Soleil Films. The price drifted down to fractions of a penny. Eventually the transaction cost to sell the stock was more than it was worth. When the shares were cancelled I got a 100% loss on my taxes instead of 99.999- had I sold. That was an expensive way to learn about independent films.

I'm sure that big investors in SHLDQ have made a similar calculation. You might see some robot trades on volatility. That Q is there to stay.
