Some things not making sense to me about the goings on. In the past we were told to keep a certain ratio of Ford employee to contractor as we would release contractors if belt needs tightening. What I have observed is Ford employees going before contractors. Very different beast this time around.

Also I have observed technical specialist LL6 and LL5 releases who were the SME and goto people to solve problems. One I know they approached to come back as consultant but he already had a new gig and said no thanks.

Our LL5 told us some consultant told them who to lay-off and they had no input. Since that makes no sense, it is most likely not true. The LL5 made the call and is hiding behind the consultant.

Our IT Supervisor told us in department meeting LL6 lay-off resuming 4/8 GSR lay-off resuming 4/15 both to be completed end of May Contractors lay-off In June.

The waiting is horrendous. At least it will be over by the summer.

The previous poster says “Ford does not place the right people for the right job. ”

So true. There are loads of people in jobs they are grossly unqualified for. And in Ford-land if you have the position then you are the expert even if you are have no idea what you are doing.

Then since Ford employees are unqualified they pay consultants to tell them what to do and then pay more consultants to do the work. This is one of the reasons everything takes so long and why there is so much red-tape everyone is covering their arses because they are afraid to do anything because they are unqualified to do their job.

Will smart reDesign fix this? Heck no because the people making the decisions have no clue who is competent and who isn’t

There are a lot of unknowns, this is why Hackett call it Smart Redesign. Ford has over 11,0000 agency and purchase employees. These employees make 1.5 to 2 times the average Ford GSR employees. Some cuts needs to starts here. Ford does have too many LL+ with less than 4 direct reports. These managers needs to be reassigned or retire. There are too much inefficiency within Ford, because Ford does not place the right people for the right job. Ford tends to throw as many people as they can to put out fire with their launches. These engineers and LL hires outside suppliers to tell them how to put out the fires and how to fix their problems. This has cost the company millions if not billions every year. Ford needs to weed out the underperform employees and those who are not value added. This includes salary and hourly employees. Smart, lean, and efficient will turn this company around.

It was mentioned by one of leaders in Canada that this cut would be mainly targeted at management. The consultants had said there are too many managers and not enough people doing the actual work - I think any GSR could've told the leadership this...

GSRs are absolutely included in this final wave. Don’t be fooled.

It is not only North America.

I don't see how Ford gets to 25-30,000 cuts by targeting only managers in North America.

Interesting. During our all hands meeting, it was also strongly hinted that the only effect to GSRs would be movements or changes to positions as things get realigned under a new management structure. It was said that GSRs weren't "100% safe," but the strong suggestion was that only management positions would be targeted for cuts.
