Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Does Honeywell really want to reduce legacy old employees?

If Honeywell really wants to reduce the number of legacy long term, (Older) employees, then they should offer an incentive like Ford, GM, Verizon and other have.

Older workers are usually the ones covered by one of the 13 legacy pension plans from acquisitions

Offer to add 3 years to age of employee and spouse, and add 3 years of service to the calculation.

Many other companies have done it, with a limit, for first 10,000 employees for example to reduce risk of everyone leaving (who has a pension)

If you offered me 3 years to the age calculations and 3 years of service I would depart today without a severance package. You could even pick my last day, and I would cancel all vacation between now and exit date (as long as it's this year)

If you really want to make big changes, play ball like the big boys (GM, Ford, Verizon, etc)

Hope the HR people that are frequently here take this one to management today!!

E-bands get 9 months of severance even if they have only been at Honeywell 1 year

If you want me to volunteer, offer me E-band severance. And I will write you a book of documentation before leaving.

They don't need to give incentives to leave when they have already determined your future. HR has been working an exit schedule for the former remote workers who would not move to a hub location. It was carefully planned in advance to roll out over a roughly two year period for every SBG. Department by department, leadership knew how many people would be exited each quarter so as to manage the headcount, severance dollars, and ensure it all stayed under the radar. If an organisation is so cold as to plan your exit in this fashion, don't you think they have plans to exit older workers who are currently at a hub?

To the OP: Great idea for us older employees, but that would reduce big shot MIPs, so not gonna happen!

The exodus has been happening and is increasing this year at a higher rate, with senior experienced engineers either quitting or retiring, taking their expertise and domain knowledge with them

Mgmt is getting their wish after all and the global region can have it all. Going to be awesome success

Most of my colleagues have less than 2 years with many less than 1 to go for retire. The rest are just leaving; so many jobs and companies recruiting

While the transfer of jobs from “mature” to “low cost” regions has been going on for decades, I noticed an equally disturbing trend in my last year’s at Honeywell: a shift in the business culture to those who would not be likely to ask embarrassing questions or resist executive directives. They don’t want capable people who will point out their mistakes or identify problems before they become critical. They want people who will say “Yes sir, may I have another.” Thus the migration of managerial roles to those regions with a more authoritarian business tradition.

that negative incentive was exactly what I needed to decide to pull the plug. Once it was clear that no more time working would add one red cent to my retirement (which and been whittled to 1/3 of what had been originally promised, anyway) after years of excellent reviews and 9 Block ratings, I undertook a campaign to absolutely ensure that when I volunteered for the next voluntary L/O I would GET it. So I left when I wanted, on my own timetable, with max severance due to years service.

No way would this ever happen. Offering an incentive to any employee would reduce the "elites" multimillion dollar annual bonuses.

After taking the mandatory S-xual Harassment training I feel assaulted and ready to quit. Seems that the only people doing the s-xual harassment are white middle aged males. Totally insulting to any white male working at this company. We had mandatory Code of Conduct training that covers it better than this hit job! Even mentioning the #METOO movement like they did is an assault on anyone tired of the Leftist MSM constant Russia, Russia, Russia, racist, racist, racist, s-xist, s-xist s-xist propaganda LIES. This training was an assault on middle aged white males working in this company.

They did offer an incentive... albeit a negative one a few years back when they froze the pay portion of the pension formula. That impacted HI positively by 100's of $M.

I think they know that the longer they keep you working here, the shorter your lifespan. Ultimately they will do whatever makes the most sense financially.

-knl is correct. The other consideration is that Honeywell has no class or scruples. None. They are a disgrace. If you continue to work there you are condoning their wretched practices.

Frankly, I don't see why Honeywell would be interested in getting rid of older employees at a great financial cost, when they can do it for free via PIPs and intimidation. Autoworkers/union/buyout. Honeywell employees/non-union/piss-em-off.

HON policy and strategic intent is to outsource jobs to low cost regions: China, India, Mexico Romania where pension cost are extremely low to non existent. Management Executives find this as too much liability cost for old American staff. Just as GM having 3 employees retired for every 2 working a decade ago before extreme restructuring; GE has similar issues now.
