Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Losing more good people

This didn't take long. Several key players have left and anyone else I talk to is looking for their exit. Win is about to be in even worse shape. A few are wiling to ride it out, but they are not top talent.

I'd really like to help turn this ship around but thats not possible when its sinking.

Will they offer me a retention bonus to stay?

Better leave before it’s too late. Other employers will see it as a red flag if you wait until you were forced to leave.

That was but a pen. They wouldn't buy office supplies. They wanted you to buy your own. Ah no

Be happy for what you have. Punishing, abusive and unfair workplace. Combined with job insecurity, impossible deadlines, backbiting among workers fearing for their jobs and managers taking out the company's shortcomings on you.

I never even got my belongings. I didn't have much there anyway. I brought things like my pictures home after the lay off after the purchase of EarthLink. I told HR not to bother. The only thing I had were what little office supplies they would buy. Its sad when you have to bed for a pen

Better leave now even if it’s a paycut. Where will you be if you lose your job. Nothing

Anyone that is starting (and there are a few) is getting VERY high salaries. Especially in the sales team. They don't expect them to make any money in commissions but need someone to try to be the face of the company to try to slow churn.

"Even after 2,3,4,5 years starting over can be hard."

Starting over after they have laid you off will be harder - at least you can look and interview while you are still being paid. By not doing anything and thinking it will be 'harder to start over', you are losing out on possible jobs already. If you make something happen - like looking for a job, then you will be motivated to land one. If you are not motivated to find another job until they let you go - you have just yourself to blame.

Taking the first step into another career that isn't WIN - something outside of the 'Stream bubble' - is hard for people to fathom.

For those same people that is so hard to leave how hard is it when the pink slip comes?

I agree but for some it will be a big cut and starting over. Even after 2,3,4,5 years starting over can be hard.

"Will they offer me a retention bonus to stay?"

This is Windstream! Unless you are a Zombie Executive, they will pay for the box for your belongings before they push you out the door. Leave for another company and bring back the good feelings of working for a stable company that cares for its employees, where not everyone will be talking about what will happen in Chapter 11, the money they have lost, and losing customers! Imagine how it must feel from the other side for companies that don't have this problem?

Get out now!

There can be retention bonuses in a bankruptcy but I wouldn't count on it. Creditors will concur if they see it's necessary to protect their interests, which it would from the descriptions here.

The problem is that senior management has to put a plan together that makes sense to both employees and creditors and that is focused on the most critical people.

From the descriptions of how Windstream got to this point, I'm not clear that could happen, but I defer to employees' opinions.

As a customer, I hate to hear talent and network knowledge/memory are walking out the door.
