Thread regarding Riverbed Technology Inc. layoffs

Old management is stuck on old management ways

The only hope for RVBD is to keep selling what brings in the money and market it as something new. Build something on top of a real product with real money behind it, then spin it in a new box. Make some cosmetic tweaks to NPM/APM/WANOp and call it AI. Any honest consultant would tell you something similar. More likely they'll just parrot back to you what you've told them and collect a nice paycheck at the end of the day. Old management is stuck on old management ways. Old white guys stuck in a room trying to reinvent the company. Never works.

lol, you don't build a business based on one "major customer already lined up".

Lol, Riverbed tried that with the software delivery platform where it had a major customer already lined up and the product was cloud native too. Loads of proof of concepts were shown with machine learning and other types of artificial intelligence. Riverbed decided to can the product because they want to save a few bucks and get EBITA up by all means.

Riverbed will have to buy a ML platform company because thr engineering talent won’t join. This is partly due to lack of product management, vision, the other is the fact the product leaders are not known to be innovators - so if you’re a talented dev, why screw your career?

As another thread pointed out, the problem is leadership not being the right ones leading this new charge.

I’d say, sell products off, use that money to acquire a real ML company and replace the unneeded weight at the top with younger minded (not age) folks who has actual modern day startup experience

Well, no wonder Riverbed is stuck trying to promote it’s old products instead of creating something new. It’s clearly built in to the culture. Every other post here is somebody trying to shove a post from another thread to the top by giving it it’s own topic.
