Thread regarding Riverbed Technology Inc. layoffs

Another round of layoffs coming within 60 days, more to come this year

RVBD will divest or shut down divisions that don't match their new direction and aren't bringing in revenue THIS YEAR. Never mind that the sales team only knows how to sell one product, and that product is becoming a dinosaur, and it's not the new vision for the company.

TB is looking to sell, sell, sell the whole enchilada ASAP (their four years is up, folks!), so the company has to be lean and mean.

This spells disaster for the everybody except the execs, who will count this as a win and cash in their class A shares while the rest of the company is flushed down the tubes.

In any case, keep looking around. If the market really slows down, we will be in double sh--

TB has smart people. They come up with a forecast number, and when we can’t make it, they make up for it by firing people and saving on salaries. This will continue until we are left with just the marketing team and PM.

Free advice to TB:

  • Sell SF, NetIM, Modeler, Portal

  • Hire witch doctor to fix SCON

  • Raise UCX from the dead

  • Keep AIX, AR, NP, SH and force PM to enforce scale, quality, documentation standards or boot them

  • build a real data platform with ML extensions

  • call McCanne and Day to come back and have real technical and forward thinking figures (or just hire people from the likes of RedHat, DataStax, Cloudera at the very least folks)

  • Get rid of the fake visionaries and ball-passing middle mgmt that came from SlopNet acquisition (super important)

  • Outsource SI’s job

  • Hire technical sellers because a “relationship sales person” really doesn’t make sense anymore in the age of social media / twitter world. C’mon, use your noodle on this one

  • Tell TB “sorry” but the billionaire and (current) millionaire leadership are just wrong and we need leaders that actually understand how technology changes lives and not how technology helps me pay for my mansion

Anything that isn't SH or Opnet is on the table right now. The new tune is SaaS, but there's no resource to support the development of anything without SH revenue. PM is all about APM/NPM, not so much talk of SDWAN these days.

If you ain't on the SH cash cow team or the "next big thing" (sound familiar, y'all?) Opnet team then you should be putting your resume out there.

TB has given RVBD all the time it is willing to give so they're now going to slice it up and sell. This ain't the first time they've done it, look at the past to see the future.

We need legit leaders that can attract solid talent at all levels!! If not, we’ll be left with those self-serving bozos that chased all the good employees away.
