Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Here's the real truth from inside

Here's the real truth from inside, as a person that was involved in it from a high level (VP level), and can tell you straight up.

The goal was a 20-30% reduction, spread across RIFs and PERFs. This was spread about in late January, and hit most management in Feb.

The RIF this round is for cleaning out based on cost. OCI (OCI-C too because it got shuffled under DJ before December) is under pressure to reduce costs since they are literally operating at a loss. Ignore whatever they claim in the investor briefs, the math does not add up. They have been under significant pressure to reduce costs ASAP before end of fiscal year. This round was the RIFs.

Next up, are the PERFs. Those are performance related terminations. That will happen mostly in May, before end of fiscal year. That is why OCI was pushing hard to get all the performance reviews in as soon as possible. They will get the same package as those in last week's RIF.

Then, there will be further cuts for those overseas - because it takes longer to work through the mechanics of that, versus the US. If you are based outside of the US, then expect a late summer job hunt.

They did not base the RIFs on performance - they based it on the buddy system. You know, the kind where you keep your buddies and whack the people that make you look bad? Yep, that kind. Oracle is in terrible financial position, but they can keep the charade going for a while.

DJ and others directly under him are trying to do their best, but honestly the folks under some of the main people (under Clay for example) are the ones that are very very political, and will do whatever it takes to keep their buddies vesting. When those folks' vesting starts to pop, they will bail out, leaving OCI a skeleton crew of incompetent id--ts, leaving DJ and Clay and folks like that to clean up that mess. There are lots of lies going upward, so the people that actually care are not getting the truth.

Good luck. Sell your Oracle stock and get out before the rest crumbles upon the remaining. Oracle will be sold as sc-ap, much like Sun was to Oracle.

Thought this deserved to be moved up to a thread. Doubt this person is a VP, I don't think VPs care or post on this site, but it sounds like someone with some inside info.

"I'm a CIO at a company..."

I'm an alien from another planet. So, yeah, it's possible a VP is posting here.

I'm a CIO at a company with a market cap at roughly the magnitude of Oracle, and I'm here, why can't Oracle VPs be posting?

umh. I don't think this is correct. from several sources (including an SVP) I got that total number worldwide is less than 9000, and the plan will be rolled out in several different phases in order to not cause any bad adv. 9000 is around 7% of Oracle current workforce, much less than the reported 20-30%. maybe the OP was referring to a single specific lob?

this first round affected less than 2000, it is closed in US but still ongoing in many other countries due to local laws. effects will be seen starting from may, but depending on specific country can continue until well in summer.

second round is expected after summer, oct/nov, just before or just after OOW, not sure.

Some people will be bitter no matter what. Whatever you write here, someone will not like it. The fact is, I am on the same page with the OP, I'd disagree on a few points but in general the story checks out

Some of the non-OCI RIFs make no sense whatsoever. A PM in one area that handles both cloud and on-prem but left other PMs - why only one PM in an area that's not OCI and not likely to be OCI (IDM/IDCS). Same with developers in that area - some layed off, others not layed off. Not enough to stop any development but just enough to make things difficult.

Also, Larry has ~35 to 36k people. Out of 140k. If we are cost cutting, why are we just looking at the small potato numbers of OCI related business. Safra has 11k people. Mark has 91k - seems like if we want to cut expenses prior to the end of the fiscal year, there are other areas we could be looking.

"ask ourselves what’s in it for this person to lie"

Are you really this obtuse?

To the extent of my knowledge, this is accurate. Everyone can choose to believe what they want, but we need to ask ourselves what’s in it for this person to lie?

How much time did you spend on that work of fiction? Newly laid off, are you looking into dime store novels? @hwk
