Thread regarding Riverbed Technology Inc. layoffs

Attrition is out of control

People who have been with the company the longest are leaving in droves - looks like nobody wants to be here anymore. Even worse, the people that are replacing them - when management even bothers to bring in new employees - have no idea what they are doing.

If something isn't done to stop the exodus of seasoned workers, I think Riverbed might be doomed.

Let’s face it, the SH has been paying for all of Opnet’s bills since the acquisition. If I were an Opnet employee, I wouldn’t be proud of this fact. I always wondered what wouldn’t happened if Riverbed didn’t buy Opnet? I figure they’d be bought by an aging company like a CA, HP or maybe simply just go out of business.

Opnet is an old pig and marketing is the lipstick - connect the dots. Opnet leadership is one in the same.

Agreed but layoffs and re-org's for new prioritization, even if the right path, should leave the remaining employees feeling valued and wanted. Lack of raises for years, mandatory time off in the U.S. 2x a year, and the new "death by 1000 paper cuts" comp plan is not making those that remain motivated to perform (or stay).

What are we pivoting to? Digital Performance Management (EUEM/APM/NPM). Riverbed may have acquired Opnet, but now Riverbed is becoming Opnet. While this may not be good for folks in the "Core" side of the Riverbed house, it is good for the company. This is (part) of why Cisco bought AppD. Companies refocus, reinvent, reimagine all the time. Learn to change with them or move to somewhere that's more comfortable for you. Now, if we can just get our marketing together...

Market is about to slow down - Talented people will be let go. We will soon have ways to find better talent looking for jobs

What are we pivoting to? The Human experience in a digital world, or whatever the phrase was, is not a product. It is marketing drivel. Bad marketing at that. A network infrastructure company can not pivot to a fuzzy feeling with no basis in reality.

I agree with the other poster, this happens all the time folks and isn't new. The job market is strong so it can afford people to "just leave" - given a down job market then we'd be having a different conversation.

Management knows exactly what they are doing - re-imagining into an APM/EUEM centric company. Also called pivoting. Happens all the time in the tech industry.
