Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Store remodel question...

So I heard thru the grapevine that our store is supposedly up for a remodel in 2019. I am a shift supervisor, not a SM, so where/how could I check on our computer system to see what might be going down and when? I don't want to ask my SM since I only heard the news from someone else and don't want to risk opening a can of worms. Rumor for my store is we might be getting a glamsquad beauty dept. ALSO, if a remodel does happen, will they temporarily close the store for the remodel, or keep it open during remodel?

Yeah corporate is too cheap to buy us a good vacuum. We need something good like a Dyson!

I wish CVS could invest in better vacuums! They send the same refurbished models that they have had for 25 years!

We had one of the first THH remodels almost 2 years ago. It went very smooth. The CVS person in charge of the plans was very detailed. The RGIS team leader was AMAZING. I sing her praises every time another store asks me about my experience. She was very detailed and even on top of the construction company! I however did not get the new fantastic carpet.

Ok so a starbucks remodel is different than a CVS. People do not shop for beauty or other items at starbucks. You have people who want to get their precriptions filled. So someone needs their medicine and it will not make them happy if you are closed during a remodel. Its pretty straightfoward as the people at starbucks are being given more comfort and convenience. When you go to a starbucks you simply go to a counter and order. Than you stay for hours because you have nothing better to do or you leave. With a CVS a remodel it is different. You are inconveniencing long time customers because you relocated what they came for. Staying open does s--- during a remodel for both employees and customers but the customer will be unhappy if you closed during the remodel just as much if not more. Not to mention you get to listen to customers tell you how they don't like it because you "moved everything" on them. A complaint you hear for well over a year.

This is not a post about the support of CVS and remodels but more of a logical view on why you can't compare a CVS and starbucks remodel

The previous comment hit the nail on the head! We had the THH remodel last year and the best part of it was new carpet!

Vitamin Beacon: Sells very little.

Snack Beacon: A few winners and a lot of pending out of dates.

Healthy Cooler: A few beverages do well, a lot of food waiting to go out of date (odd selection of over priced junk).

Question: Why not just have clean stores and stop with the smoke and mirrors?

I went through a remodel at a 24 hour store. It was THE worst experience I've had in my many years here.. No customers got hurt from tools, lol, but my service suffered for sure, as my targets stayed the same. Backroom was the worst I've seen at any store, because the team was horrible and put only 1-3 items on the shelf and called the rest o/s. They brought in a lot of high end product that now just walks out my doors, but in the end I got new carpet....

Who even cares if you are getting remodeled.

Actually, you SHOULD close during a remodel. Imagine if a customer gets hurt by construction tools or materials in your store, because they were a little too curious as to what’s happening. And we’re so short-staffed these days we don’t have people or time to remind customers to be careful. And trust me NO ONE reads signs these days. Anyway, 2 additional points... our local grocery store chain, had a full and complete remodel of the entire store, and stayed open during the process, and customers were VERY unhappy and it was an epic failure! People had NO idea where anything was as they had to rearrange the store for the remodel. They ended up having to print out flyers and hand them to everyone so they could find what they were looking for. Before the remodel happy customers, after it was done, very happy customers, but DURING the remodel, very unhappy customers, and a total epic fail! They should have closed for a month, would’ve been MUCH better! Which brings me to my second point... my local Starbucks closed for a month while they remodeled the store and customers came back, happier than ever! No customers left and went elsewhere, they ALL came back! So if the fear is you might lose customers, during a remodel, that’s a risk you have to be willing to take. Because IF your store is good enough, the customers will always come back! Besides people will come back because they want to see what the new store looks like. So my experience is that closing during a remodel is always the best option! But cvs is a greedy pig, so they put profits ahead of customer AND employee safety!

Only person who has the information regarding remodels is the district manager. I have been through 2 remodels before and they do NOT close the store. Everything is done while the store is open. They usually comes in at around 5 or 6 am and do the construction part while closed (assuming you are not a 24 hour store).

Good luck and expect to having pallet(s) of overstock when the remodel is done.
