Thread regarding Ford layoffs

It's not Ford, it's the economy!

I'm not convinced it would be much better anywhere else. I think people are too set in the assumption that this is a Ford problem. I don't think it is. It's a problem with the broader economy. The middle class is getting squeezed into nothing. Good paying, secure jobs are becoming a thing of the past.

I'm just going to hold onto this as long as I can, because I don't believe it'd be much better anywhere else. And if I do get let go, then I'll figure it out. I'm in my early 30s and I've accepted that I'm never going to be very wealthy or monetarily prosperous. All I want is to save up enough to pay off my modest sub $100k house, and then at least I'll never be homeless. The rest of it, nice cars, bigger house, second vacation house... F*ck it. It's not worth the struggle you have to go through to get it any more. The game is rigged against the working class and I'm not going to play it any more. I'm finding ways to be happy outside of having a lot of money or a promotion.

Disclaimer: not my post, saw it in another thread

Two new hires (under two years) turned in their resignations this week. IT

Both got much better pay and better positions. So no it is not the economy.

Both are relocating out of Michigan.

I fully expect others to do the same. Good grief let’s treat people like crud and then try to convince them they won the lottery if selected to stay.

Headed into retirement. When market returns were in the high single digits and higher, the mortgage payment with the interest deduction wasn't a major issue with a rate of about 4%.

Looking at the current bond market yields pushed me to paying off my mortgage. The long-term corporate bond market provides some relief but loaning money to a corporation for 20+ years doesn't put me in a comfort zone.

Paying off your house is the main way to enjoy financial freedom and not have to take a high paying stressful job. Also payoff or buy a cheaper car as well, maintain it, perform your own repairs. The idea of leasing expensive cars, buying a big house, taking expensive vacations is stupid!! Let me tell you, most of population does this and believe me they are not rich, so they can make a payment, big deal. That's not wealth, that's stupidity at it's finest. Let's see how many people could actually pay cash for anything? I'd say less then 5%! If you pay your house and car off you will have more net worth then most people, at that point you will be considered wealthy. House and car do not have to expensive either.

A little true. But it is real and true whoever fires you. Notice how we do not even lay-off anymore, unless you are a member of the UAW?

True, as much as people whine that Ford is terrible, all you have to do is read other company boards on this website to realize there are much worse places. It s---s to have to worry about layoffs, but that's the reality of today's economy.
