Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Toxic Political Environment

As we getting closer to the deadline, people are taking it very hard. I have never seen people at worse shape in in Ford. LL6s and GSRs feel like they are in Chess, any wrong move you get checkmate (I never seen people that slow in taking action or responding). Politics playing big role. I see some teams getting overwhelmed with work all the sudden (double the work while other are simply getting the work from beneath them (as they preparing the whole team to be laid off apparently). It all goes down to connections.

There is nothing smart about what is happening. Feel sorry for many good people here who taking it hard and they more likely to end this torture process with them laid off.

All I can say two more weeks to go. I hope the deadline don't move again. For all the people who struggle with this process. Take sometime off. It wouldn't make a difference. The decisions seems to be made already. I am assuming they taking this time to prepare the notifications and packages at this point.

I have also observed extraordinary acts of kindness during these stressful times. This week I witnessed a senior tech spec spend four hours of off the clock OT writing code to turn a months long project into a two hour project. A junior, out of favor, team member had an impossible deadline - he was set up by a supervisor to fail. The junior team member was able to complete the project ahead of schedule. The senior tech spec said nothing to anyone about their involvement. Very classy individual and what the Ford Culture should be.

Doing a great job will cause you to become a social pariah at Ford and you will soon find yourself out of a job. The “popular cool kids” target the competent spreading rumors about them, credit stealing, blame assigning. Next thing the competent one finds himself excluded from all work meetings and all his projects given to the “cool kids” when they are all but done (because leadership deems him incompetent), the “cool kids” get all the glory and the competent one is placed on a PIP.

Happens over and over. This is the Ford culture.

What did my boss tell me? Ignore the Ford Truths. Keep your head down. Follow the chain of command. Do not help other teams. Show up in person to all LL meetings, ask softball questions. Figure out LL schedule and “bump” into them in break room, hallways etc and endear yourself to them.

My advice?

Start some a-- kissing - Now

Whether you go a great job or not- who cares?

It is a popularity contest -

That’s why we have LL6 & LL5s who has no clue what’s going on -

Who can’t make sound decision -

And it’s embarrassing -

And no one steps up to complain -

So. Why are these people at the positions they are in..???

Because they are winning in the popularity contest

Because someone above likes them -

Because they the have someone looking out for their a-- -

O yes....

My boss told me to make sure my LL5 like me.

What did your boss tell you?

Basically it’s already over since the “list” was done weeks ago. 2 weeks from today some lucky employees will get packages and can leave that day paid the rest of May. Sweet deal that no other company I’ve heard of does. The rest stay in the Dearborn Prison to work twice as hard picking up the slack. No idea why anyone at this point (other than those with pensions) isn’t looking for a better job. There are so many available with growing companies.

Yikes same thing happened to me spent a month developing paper and supporting code only to have a coworker steal the credit. I learnd he was demo of all “his” work before senior leadership, so my code was decomissioned right before his live demo. the turd still came out smelling like a rose.

Agree. Bad behaviors are rampant. Just last week, a peer took my recommendation paper and presented it to the director as their own. Tired of those who cannot stealing from those who can.
