Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

What about American girl?

In the last town hall, it struck that there was basically nothing good to say about American Girl, and it's been like that forever it seems. FP will survive their latest issues. Mega is even on an upswing.

But, I'm just wondering how a high end company like American Girl will bounce back? Isn't that the problem, that their stuff is wayyy over-priced? It really seems like it's a dying brand that won't get better.

Just pick up one of the pets that sell for 20...insulting to the consumer. I couldnt give those embarrassing cheap things away. Glad they let me go. First time ive even thought about this site since. My two plus decades with greedy Mattel/AG taught me a good lesson. Never put your passion behind corporate greed. Does not matter how hard you work or how much you truly care, bottom line is all that matters. And now for the unavoidable doom. S---s to see so many still sweating their job- frankly its unhealthy. Trust ME, there are definitely greener pastures!!

I think the new hire is a great one. She actually ran Barbie when it was a hot brand. Launched My Scene also. She's good. Let's have a little faith...this might be just the thing AG needs

Stay strong AG. Your friends on the outside are pulling for you.

The fact that they picked someone who ran Barbie says it all. Because the Mattel playbook has been working so well of late.

It's not that their stuff is overpriced, it's that fewer and fewer people are willing to pay for the generic, feel-good, PC c-ap that American Girl has been dumbed-down into. Women that fondly remember the love and effort that went into crafting the history, personalities and stories that surrounded their dolls aren't going to shell out for their daughters if what they get is the mindless junk that much of American Girl has sadly become...

So it came down to crazy JM or another RD sycophant? Poor AG. Painful to watch.

A new president that knows the doll business might finally help turn things around. Although, I also agree about their prices being too high.

The hiring standards dropped, If you can breath, you're hired. Nobody wants to pay high end prices with sub standard customer service.

Don't you know? RD has been spending time there, and they are rebranding.
