Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Basis for who is picked

So is this a popularity contest? What are the basis of who they pick? If it is age or how long you been there isn’t that discrimination and can’t they be sued?

I specifically asked this question in an all-hands meeting with our Director (submitted via e-mail beforehand), and it was not answered. Based on the verbatims I read on the Pulse dashboard (God, I just love saying sh-- like that! /s), people have seen good, experienced people let go, and less-than-competent people promoted into their positions.

At the all-hands meeting, our Director actually told us to go seek out the rumors, since she couldn't tell us much of anything, and as far as she could tell the rumors were pretty accurate. The rumors I heard were that they were letting experienced, high-salary people go. I asked my LL5 about this, and his response was "early waves were LL4 and above . . . how many LL4s do you know who aren't experienced with high salaries?" I guess this kinda makes sense.

No company as big as Ford is dumb enough to violate federal law by laying off only old people. So surprisingly, one of the most at-risk categories might just be young employees with high salaries. It would be ironic if they end up laying off a bunch of young, hotshot go-getters who've moved up the ladder early in their careers, because they help disguise the fact that Ford is actually age discriminating!!

If you are making over 120-150 then they can hire cheaper worker for 80-100.... that is a 20-50k savings

GM guy who was laid off in Feb (I am finally in final rounds of many positions, including Ford ironically -not putting much hope in this). Layoffs are done at exec director and 3rd parties w/o any input from managers (many managers got sacked too) in which the average age of those cut turns out to be about 39-45 years of age.

More bloated your group or has larger budget (ex: test vehicles, lab machines, etc) expect you group to be gutted. Versus CAE at GM was hardly touched bc their only overhead cost is software.
