Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

An awakening

I started with the company right out of High School as a management employee in a technical position. One of the older guys told me for years there was no future here, anyone smart would leave. I used to think he was just a guy who was full of c-ap and always complained. I took everything he said with a grain of salt.

Today, i applied for my first job outside the company, because everything this guy has said for years has come to be true. I now realize he was right. We are doomed.

It's amazing how you can buy into what supervision tells you for so long, until one day you realize, it is as bad as he says and there is no future. I should have listened years ago and not invested so much time and energy here.

If you are like i was, it is time to wake up.

I work for CTL , have a great boss that empowers us to do what it takes to resolve issues for our customers. In many instances what appears to be a network problem is in fact a customer caused issue, in spite of this we do what we can to help them resolve the problem. I enjoy my work and based on the accolades I receive from customers I know I am making a difference. Not all people or all departments are run like this, but our team rocks, we have an exceptionally bright crew, everyone is helpful and courteous to each other and we work together to do whatever it takes to impress our customers.

Centurylink has some baggage from old school wirelines that take a heavy toll on resources but we have a huge potential and some of the best people you will ever know.

I worked with a kid like this guy. Fed him full of BS all the time. He used to run to the boss and MRO with it. They used to call and laugh and say "why do you tell him that shat?" Of course, i told them i did it purposely so he would look foolish. They laughed. Never managed to get me fired only look silly. He is still here but i think may realize i was right about the job being unstable. It took long enough.

Well I would have loved to have heard that meeting, well they have steps they have to follow with represented unless your falsely doing something or get caught vandalizing and or theft.

Also the process has turned into they send a Manager from another group or area to do it so they don't have to look you in the eye and face you.

If they are having these meetings it must mean they didn't get enough VSPP volunteers and are now going to try a heavy handed approach.

We are also headed in to the last year of the Contract in may places so flexing muscles is going to start happening it looks like. People are upset, and losing patience all over. People leaving as they can, up steps lets put the fear of losing their job into the mix for those trying to make it work.

This will be as hard on many managers that still have a heart as it is for the Reports they have. Last time I heard about this is when Nacchio took over and tried to Take the Pension, he couldn't it is protected and then they started to do mass layoffs, and followed up with how to fire employee meetings, a lot of managers walked after that.

Have a feeling the worse is yet to come.
