I happen to read up on layoffs at MetricStream if only because I work here. Staying behind the veil of anonymity and reading anonymous posts on layoffs here is not an addiction though. It is mostly out of concern. I have to admit though that I am mostly in disagreement with what is written here.
MetricStream, like any company has its flaws. That is a given. But what amuses me is the amount of personal insults I find (pseudonym and acronym usage notwithstanding). Why so bitter? I wonder. Yes, you do come across as mysterious but what you do not realise is that you got the entire plot wrong.
Being in the company for long enough, I can tell you that MetricStream has always given the opportunity to everyone to contribute. The product has s---ed sometimes as much as it has succeeded in spurts. But there has never been a time at MetricStream when it was not open to critique and improvement.
What I have noticed is that the senior developers and leads at all ends of MetricStream (from Platform to PS) are risk averse. Among the million opportunities provided to participate or indulge in the product's radical development phases, everyone has taken the safe zones. But yes, magic was expected from managers, sales etc to make the product work.
Come on! A software product belongs to true engineers. When true engineers do not take the lead and risk to build it and nurture it, then who will? You guessed that right. I have seen the product abandoned by engineers being picked up by others, sometimes the wrong hands.
So stop waiting around and discussing who could or should go next. Instead spend time only on two activities, i.e doing a better job to pull out the company from a crisis it might be going through or quitting if you do not agree with the models. It is possible that you are a fit elsewhere.
If you stay back, try this for a change. Walk into the room of a half decent manager or senior tomorrow and ask how YOU can help change the situation? Too risky for you?
