Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Why aren’t they cutting management?

Since all this started the number of people that are above me in the managerial structure hasn’t changed by one person. On the other hand a lot of my colleagues lost their jobs. What’s the logic of keeping the same amount of management, who weren’t doing anything as it is, in a situation where the company has gotten smaller and has a smaller footprint. Haven't they learned their lesson?

Same reason they continue to promote management and creating positions. Look at the distribution centers you promote a guy Ryan Gorecki to director a position that is not needed and beside the fact his building is one of the worst in the network same way you create a regional transportation manager position for a traffic manager from warren Ohio so he doesn't loose his job. These positions weren't needed when we were a bigger company and sure as hell are not needed now. Just taking care of their friends.,

I agree with some comments here that HQ is out of touch with the stores. When Alwyn Lewis was in charge he made HQ people visit the stores. I didn't agree with a lot of what he did but having to work in the store back then gave me a good perspective of what the store associates have to deal with on a daily basis. Some of that has gone missing the last few years.

It’s always been this way. Cuts at store level never ending.

District and Region, under the disguise of reorganization, usually gets new positions added, some removed, some put in special assignments and very few headcount in total never sent home. That’s how their turf is protected. Also by having layers of managers, protects Hq’s from ever being held accountable. “The Corleone Family Senator, has a lot of buffers”

One more reason why SHC failed as a company. A complete disconnect between HQ and the stores. With the stores blaming management and management not interested in listening to the stores

Very sad how store assistants keep doing what their doing. Nothing but sit in Hr office, office or break room eating. New supervisors are a joke too! Some work and others have their heads up the store manager. Keep those useless ones around but get rid of the hard workers who care and bust butt. Time to cut the ones who don't do dilly squat.

Many associates were promoted into management jobs or director jobs so they could get a 'pay raise' (since very few employees got merit increases)... and some were promoted into those jobs because they threatened to leave. I worked at Hoffman for almost 25 years and that's what I saw towards the end. I am not saying these are bad people, some of them were brilliant workers but being a good manager of people is a lot different than being a star contributor. Also that's why some of them were kept while others were let go.

Exactly. Lots of productive people lost their jobs while totally worthless sh--bags like Steve Wiser are still collecting paychecks.

No, of course they haven't.

No, they haven't learned a damn thing. Same old bs still goes on with this company. If you kiss up to the upper management they'll keep you around. The ones that bust their butts though, they'll always get thrown into the fires because they can always be "replaced".
