I maybe oversimplifying the matter, but if they laid of workers to make room for the production of autonomous driving cars, electric cars or whatever, does that mean that the whole Ford workforce as we know it is going to be cut eventually when these new technologies go into production. Can’t see that the workers who were laid off were any better or worse than the ones that go to stay, so I imagine that the remaining ones await the same fate.

Sounds like a terrible plan as these three countries usually don't understand inter workings of things ( sides maybe Russians who aren't usually trustworthy). They only know the basics and then just copy code off the internet and try to patch it in.
Thinking outside the box is also not any of these places strong suits and all off them are notorious for stealing IP. Sounds like someone just compared the upfront costs without considering the long term costs such as defending IP and lack of innovation.
I guess the Ford way is like being a stingy car owner. We could buy the OE part for $500 and not have issues for the next 5 years or we could buy the cheap part for $250 and have to replace it every year as well as replace other parts that the cheap part screwed up due to such subpar performance and quality.
@YH3BBQO-cqi hit the nail on the head. I've turned over several apps to them and they are completely lost. The groups that I have dealt with, anything but basic maintenance is beyond their ability.
India is good for maintenance type work... innovation is not India’s forte...most need spoon feeding
Ford won’t be doing any of its own innovation or engineering in the future. Chinese suppliers = AV. European suppliers = EV. Manufacturing = Mexico. IT = China for critical, complex IT, Russia for moderately complex code, India for low quality un-important code and maintenance.
The bigger question is Who will buy the vehicles?

Yes once the battery tech kicks in the following areas would be disposable: power train, engine systems, body to some extent, restraints, so that is almost 30% of the work force...
