Thread regarding McDermott International Inc. layoffs

The Real Problem

The real problem is executive pay, inequality and mentality. As long as executives get paid big bonuses for increasing profits with no long term growth goals, it will continue to be a problem. The executives are just taking the shareholders money. A good example is Phil A. He cashed out 13 million, I think the number was. This was right before CB&I went belly up. It is an epidemic in America, not just CB&I or MDR. How do you counter it? You vote the board of directors and executive pay out. That is if you have stock.

As far as skill, it might be the way you are recruiting. Just because someone passes a test, doesn't mean they can do a job. Recruiters and word matching is just a very very small part of hiring the right person. I remember when a company would cater to the employee if they really liked them. They would pay relocation, put them in nice hotels and treat them right. Now executives want to cut cost so they can get a bigger bonus.

They have cut so many corners they are going around in circles now. Everybody can do it cheap but nothing works anymore. It does not matter how many Indians you have, if you cannot do a job, no one is going to hire you!

It is common sense, not business sense or any other kind of science.

every nation produces good engineers, but only scotland produced the senior management team that is driving MDR into the ground.

Your bully mentality is showing, must be in management. Stick and stone may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. I am not insecure like YOU!

Funny thing is all engineers are the same no matter where they are from. Spend too much time thinking about all the possibilities vs committing and making a decision. What makes that worse is a company like the ones we have that promote non-decision making employees. I just heard about this site couldn’t believe productive employees would spend time on this dumb sh-- but here you all are and now you d--g my a-- into it. We are all screwed just brush up your resume and ditch.

I was publicly denigrated by an Indian supervisor in front of my peers. It was uncalled for; not factual; and embarrassing for all. He seemed to relish the incident. I moved on and will NEVER work with an Indian again. Before that, I had no problems with Indians for many years in the EPC industry. Something has gone to their head. VERY prejudiced on their part these days!

I guess that India engineering is why things work so smoothly these days :). CMS was created for engineers like you, script readers. Book smart but no practical experience.

To the India engineer, humble yourself boy you are not all that. You think you know everything when you do not know anything. You are good at following directions, a script reader but you have no troubleshooting skills. You are nasty and lack in hygiene. You are arrogant and can hardly speak English. Grant it you get stuff done but you do not know what you are doing.

Once again humble yourself boy, you are not all that.

What ever you say Boss! Did you just admit you have poor quality? Must not be in management. Every time you point the finger at Tyler, Shaw or anyone else, you have three more pointing YOU dipstick!

As far as Indian engineers, like any there are good ones and bad ones. The problem with India engineers is all they want to do is argue because they think they know it all. Just read the post below. The only reason they are where they are is because Corporate America sold out America.

India engineers and Lummus belong together, they know it all.

Good luck!

@YEFSH5f-2gml - LOL...are you serious, you call yourself better, but yet you make a post like that. Doesn't matter what race you are, if you perform.

As for sending more work to India because it is "Cheaper". You see where the the company is from going that direction. Funny thing is you are prod that you are "Cheaper".

As an Indian engineer, I resent the slight from one of the commenters. First and foremost, Indian engineers are now the best in the world. Most Indian engineers have advanced degrees such as a Masters or Doctorate. This means we have more knowledge and really understand Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer.

American engineers once were in the lead, but now sit their fat A$$E$ on the couch and complain. You do notice that more and more work is sent to India. Why ? Simply because we do it better, cheaper and faster. We dont come up with excuses like "I have to pick up my daughter from school." We are dedicated to the projects we execute. We stand by the Hindi traditions that propel us ahead over the American engineering counterparts.

Absolutely wrong about generalisation on Indian engineers. The Houston EPC group is no better in quality and that is across companies. The Tyler group..... God bless you if you deal with these dimwit mo--ns. The downfall in quality is due to sudden expansion in engineering in past 15 years. You can get quality in such situation.

That is how wall street capitalism works. Privatize profits and socialize loss...pretty simple really

Increasing profits? What company do you work for? I'd settle for a profit.
