Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

Design, build and install MOE and GPON orders.

Is anyone hearing about the company going to one contract company doing the design, build and install of MOE/ENET and GPON orders? I was told today that Outsource Engineers are have been told and are worried about losing their jobs due to CTL going to a one vendor model for the design, build and install of fiber orders. I have seen where Lamberts is hiring OSP Engineers in Fort Meyers and the Orlando area. I have heard for several years that they want to do this but it seems that they are moving forward with this now. If this does go company wide, it could impact what is left of Engineering and Construction Techs as well as BMO Techs that do installs. Any thoughts?

Lambert has been doing all that in Mid-Atlantic for years. You are just late to the game. Lambert's does the design build and install to the building. Then some mom-and-pop Fiber outfit or Lambert comes in and installs the FOT.

In our area there is no more BMO Tech. The BMO techs were all converted to National Field Ops techs when level 3 took over. The national techs go in and install the RAD and the Adtran behind it. They turn up the ethernet for the internet and the trunks for the customer.

In some areas the CO techs are still installing the RAD and then National techs install the Adtran and do the turn up. We were told sometime ago that Lawler wanted to phase out the CO techs being involved and that has been done in most areas but not all. The plan is to have the national techs program and install the RAD and the Adran and do the turn up all in one day, instead of multiple visits over a week or two.

Nothing new here. Apparently they are just getting around to it in your area.

They have been contracting Fiber engineering out for a while now in some areas. The installations will keep being done by Level 3 techs for business and bargained employees will get residential.
