Thread regarding CVS layoffs

All bets are off for no more store closures

All bets are off for no more store closures IF the judge rejects the merger and orders cvs and aetna to seperate. If the merger goes south then the stuff will hit the fan. If you think we're in full cost cutting measures now, it'll only get much worse if the merger fails.

A scary sentence from @YD3FIQF-akv . Unfortunately the OP is 100% right

Time will tell what happens, I just see it as this judge means business. And even if it gets approved, the judge has probably cost cvs thousands of dollars in legal fees! Lawyers aren’t cheap these days...

Perhaps the judge might be putting on a show to prove a point or something, but what if this IS real? What if he does reject the merger? At this point I say anything is possible.

The merger is fine....the judge is just doing a dog and pony show.....money talks and to much has been invested from both sides.....

Rite aid was not the initiator of a merger, they were being purchased. And it fell through, but Wags still made it work anyway.

And Walgreens netted MORE stores not less.

They closed the Rite AIDS because they were duplicated locations.

We are NOT the target of an acquisition.

Regardless of the outcome of the merger, which there is not a reason to believe it won’t be completed, store closings do not cut costs. If there is a lease liability we lose money by closing stores.

So yes...

To the previous poster: Don’t believe the merger is in trouble? Just look closely at the court case... It is rare for a judge to take a merger court hearing this far. So we are in uncharted territory. And the judge has already hinted that he does have authority to stop this merger. Plus, three times the gov’t/cvs asked the judge to just approve the merger and three times he said no, and instead ordered another court hearing. Figure it out... Yes this merger’s in trouble.

Just look at Rite Aid... 2 failed mergers, then they sold off half their stores to Walgreens, (some of which will be closed), and now the company is struggling to survive. Failed mergers don’t end well, and we still have issues with Omnicare, a merger that was approved, so a failed Aetna merger would be a disaster!
