Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

What is the TRUE unemployment rate?

If it seems like the job market isn't quite as strong as we're told, it's because it isn't. It's a rigged number, purposefully.

Long story short, people who don't find work within X amount of time are moved into different categories which assume they aren't looking or are something other than job seekers.

All explained here, for anyone with the desire to know how this con works.

This isn't true at all. Use better sources.

"The official unemployment rate is known as U3. It defines unemployed people as those who are willing and available to work, and who have actively sought work within the past four weeks."

I might not trust the government, but I'd trust "shadowstats" even less. There is no 'single' measure of unemployment from the government, though people tend to use the U-3 definition. But the various rates and definitions (some of which do count underemployed people in the rates) for 2018 are found here: https://www.bls.gov/lau/stalt.htm

Yep. And it does not account for who is underemployed as well. I wonder how many people with law degrees are working as Baristas at Starbucks or something? Just because they need some money coming in to pay their freaking mortgage. I've been John job-hunting for quite a while. I've got a few interviews but it is a very competitive market I think no matter where you are. I think the people who are so invested in the so-called higher unemployment rate are only looking at certain numbers and not the quality of the jobs that are filled anyway. Not everyone can work at Target
