Thread regarding CVS layoffs

New Manager

Hello, So I was promoted a couple of months ago to manager. I was an SMIT for 4 months prior. But I am having a hard time getting everything done that the DL wants me to get done. How do I properly get everything done without going over my 45 hours? I have been working more and feel like I am doing something wrong. And I really don't want to work more than I have to seeing as I have 2 young children and a pregnant wife at home. Being a store manager at a shoe store was a lot easier than this.

4 months huh? I'm not disregarding your skills because you may be good, but can you say "desperation." Seems like we're just picking people up off the street to run our stores. Ahh and to think this was once a great company to work for. sigh

There's a few different ways to find success in CVS. The problem is you have 4 months so you might have seen part of one way. If you aren't at a 24 hour store then I recommend coming in early to get stuff done with the store closed. If you're putting in extra time to do tasks don't have customers in the way. If you are having a staffing issue then stay an extra hour or so and develop your staff/reach out to applicants.

For your DL's expectations, prioritize them and work on them. Some things they say is instant, make an Easter flower display. Others can wait until you have time, do old planograms(focus on current stuff or you'll always be playing catchup.) Don't rush to hire even if your DL says just hire. I've seen many managers hire anyone who shows up for an interview.

Use to take years to make it to grade of manager. Now you can walk off the street and be put in charge in 4 months . You must be brilliant or have big tits

Actually if you were only a smit for 4 months and then promoted to SM, then that tells you how desperate cvs needs store managers for everyone that’s quitting left and right. When is corporate gonna figure out you can’t continue to treat people like garbage and expect them to stay and put up with the c-ap.

How about for starters maybe the DL’s expectations are CRAZY out of control. What do we do about that? I have yet to meet a DL who understands what it takes to get things done. I wonder how it was they made DL in the first place. It used to be that you worked your way up the ladder from the bottom up to DL, now it’s all about who you know, regardless of your experience level.

You've made a big mistake taking the position. The short answer is you're not going to accomplish everything. Especially working 45. Most of us in my district are working 60 + and just squeaking by. By advice is pick your battles. I've had to stop doing expirations, AMM tags, and new item bulletins, so that I can accomplish more important things. Hopefully my interviews went well with other places so I can get out of this disaster we call cvs...good luck to you. I hope you wise up and look for something else because the grass can only be greener on the other side.

A store manager and you were only an SMIT for four months? Thats setting you up for failure right there

My own experience. I’m not an organized person by nature, so my struggle as a cvs manager was finding myself always running around in circles trying to remember everything. I put a couple of hours in making what I consider a really good task sheet for my store and that has helped my efficiency greatly. I might work more than 45 hours 2-3 weeks a year now. Also, CVS has a crazy bad habit of jumping on random things that it finds important and letting everything else go. I’ve always skipped the things I’ve found to be stupid and waited to see if I ever got in trouble. You’d be surprised how much you can cut out that nobody actually looks at. If they do say something just start doing it then and apologize.

Spend a little extra time each week developing your shifts. If you dont want to work more then 45 hours per week then you need strong shifts!

Run, even IF CVS/Aetna merger is given the Ok, which is now 18 mo. overdue, it will take years to recover from all the damage corporate has created.

States are starting to pass new law restricting PBM profiteering. Universal pricing, which will bring back independents.

As for HUBs, would you take a loved one to - UnCaring, UnHealthy greedy company for healthcare?

Employees are walking out after 15-25 yrs service, our health has suffered, pharmacists are committing s---c-de...

Go back to selling shoes, be with your wife and children because no matter what you put into this co. it will never think of you as a human, just a number.

Prioritize...I would always ensure truck is done, planograms and price changes...the other stuff can wait....pencil whip the car and all that other non important c-ap and

And the daily walk...that saves a ton of time ...delegate the schedule just tell them what your gonna work
