Windstream is hiring Alvarez and Marsal as their consultants to look at Windstream's operations and what needs to be done with them. Separate consultants are looking at financial stuff.

Now that there is a consultant firm looking at the numbers. If you haven't got your resume updated, you better do it now. There may or may not be a severance package available anymore.

This may not be a bad thing. They get to see how completely boned the management of this company is and recommend restructure. Which is so badly needed.
If this is the case then the writing on the wall is for these "Consultants" to see what there is value.
