  • trim the top heavy middle management towers down (RA's)

  • good grief Charlie Brown, start to train staff on products they are considered experts in lol

  • stop the nepotism, no more hiring hubby-wifey BS (talent is leaving IBM due to this)

  • close the innovation centers, they are money pits and a breeding ground for the nepotism

That would be a kick start back to normalcy.

Option 1: wither and layoff, everyone loses.

.

Option 2: rather than layoff, give them the choice to stick around for reduced pay. IBM is sorely missing innovation, pay can be adjusted as business picks up.

.

The disgruntled will leave anyway - makes no difference.

Older people continue for lower pay? The kids who know "nothing" will make normal pay.

You need a caca pie in the face for that idea.

IBM has the advantage over "older" employees and this board is squandering it. Rather than laying off experienced people it should give them an option to continue for lower pay. It has done this repeatedly in the past. If challenged IBM can easily justify itself financially by saying as a business it has to resort to financial prudence - it already does this in court wrt. age-discrimination lawsuits. A big difference it will make - IBM can stop scaring/shedding its clients and, all too apparently, it can use the talent to make something new and earthshaking for a change.

This is very typical behavior in IBM US. I would encourage all who believe they are being treated badly to keep all documentation and detailed notes. There are multiple age related lawsuits in process as well as many age discrimination complaints filed with EEOC. IBM is very brazen and aggressive with firing older employees. I know first hand.

I never liked any IBM vice presidents. They have huge egos and are full of themselves -- every single one of them.
