Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Wake Up

Nobody is saying anything because they hired a new big wig at the home office and they all think he's going to make the "Big Difference " . well people, he will not. You can expect half of the entire barnes and noble workforce to be unemployed, big store will become small stores, maybe, or they will just close half of them. Retail is a dying breed, and barnes and noble is dying fast. Nothing is going to make this company great again. There is no way to keep it from burning without burning HALF of their employees . If you are crazy enough to listen to the lies they are feeding you then you deserve what you get. And as you can see, barnes and noble is still on the layoff list.

It's a pattern with this company.

Have you noticed they always favor hiring new merch/lower level managers, from the outside, instead of promoting the experienced staffers within?

And nearly every single time, the new/outside manager they hire, comes in, regrets his/her decision and runs for the exit.

B&N loves the idea of the "new," injecting new ideas/an outsider perspective, etc.

But most of these folks bail within the first few months.

Just like those before him, this loser won't be able to create a miracle.

The stocks are as low as when the company first opened.

Yeah pay St. Gorman millions & lay-off more booksellers... he may save the company ( for a few months) but he WONT save YOUR job.. get off the sinking ship or don’t complain when it goes down !

When was the last time you bought something from GNC? And are they still around?

Barnes & Noble has a new ops leader.

The bookseller named Joe Gorman as executive VP, operations. He joins the company from General Nutrition Centers, where he held the same title.

In addition to his position at GNC, Gorman also held leadership positions at GameStop and Home Depot. At GameStop, he created and grew a business unit dedicated to new strategic growth, leveraging the company’s core strengths in tangential businesses. At Home Depot, Gorman led the operational direction and execution plan for West Coast Division stores and employees.

At Barnes & Noble, Gorman will be responsible for uniting the stores, café and real estate teams, as well as providing sales, logistical and operational leadership to these teams to drive performance, growth and profitability.

“Joe is a seasoned executive and given his wealth of retail experience we believe he is the perfect fit for our business,” said Leonard Riggio, executive chairman of Barnes & Noble.

If laying off half the workforce is what you need to do to survive, it's what you need to do. Retail isn't going away.
