Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Why hiring new people when layoffs are happening?

Toronto and Dallas are hiring across functions in Legal and Corporate yet the same divisions laid off people a few weeks ago. What’s happening? If the new hires were fresh college grads, would have understood why. They are hiring experienced folks. Sad to see this revolving door. How long before these new hires are let go?

Judging by the painfully honest criticisms by current and former employees on pages such as Glassdoor, the posting of vacancies like this is merely to attempt to create the appearance of growth and may not even be legit vacancies they plan to fill. One thing is clear, those at the top are willing to cook the books, conceal the truth, and twist reality so they please the greedy stakeholders and make their many bucks on cheap labor. What once was a great company is the Walmart of all it produces. I doubt many people will even bother to apply.

Blind arrogance does NOT result in growth. Prima facia that TR certainly didn't retain the "best" people, and its future is sad.

Hahaha!! Better people? That’s a good one. I have been gobsmacked at the highly skilled colleagues that have been let go in the past few months as compared to the bungling muttonheads that remain employed by this company. Keep your sense of humour, Anon!

Re @Y4MZ60M-bgh’s post about replacing the ten bottom ten percenters with better people always improves things - a pretty thoughtless and arrogant statement to make. First, it shows no thought or respect for those who have lost their jobs. I just hope you never have to face what they have gone through. Second, get your facts right. In 2012 TR had over 61,000 employees. As of now it has approximately 27,500. So much for losing ten percent. Clearly, after losing 55 percent in seven years things have not improved, or are likely to.

With overall RIF in place, how are they just backfilling bottom 10%? My neighbour got an offer in Toronto. I don't know what to say to the poor fella. Ship is sinking.

In Toronto, those roles are replacements for people that were let go in other locations. Like they repeteadly said, they’re moving all technology roles to a handful of locations - Toronto is one of them. Of course, this is the current situation. I have no idea what they will do in a few months; your guess is as good as mine.

Are new hires accepting offers? What are salaries being offered? Current employees hardly see any raise.
