Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Now that the bankruptcy is over will Sears or Kmart be coming back to Maine?

Aroostook county has the Presque Isle and caribou Caribou area with 20 000 people. There was a Kmart in Presque Isle that closed then a small one in Madawaska that closed. The mall has been sold and they're actively trying to get new remnants. Aroostook county has. 70 000 people and only a JC Penney and Walmart. There's a growing population, stable economic backbone of agriculture, low crime, and many Amish moving from the mid west. It went through tough times, but things are looking up. Kmart could really dominate northern Maine as there's no Kohls, Target, TJ Maxx, Big Lots, or anything.

Today's retailers are looking at population density and high incomes for their expansion plans, which is why Walmart is pulling out of the rural areas it once dominated, often leaving them without a single solitary retailer in its stead. Amazon has completely changed the dynamic of what makes a bricks and mortar location profitable, and even Walmart can't make Sam's Club and Wally Worlds work. We're basically back to the 1920's model of the Sears' catalog for rural areas.
