Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Painful - Yes, Necessary - Yes

I truly believe that Ford is doing this the right way. Just look how long it took GM to figure out that they need to stop making sedans and a few weeks later started to separate people. Ford has been working on the WHAT and HOW for a long time and left the WHO (people) to the end. Now, it's a matter of having the right people on the bus to execute the HOW. Otherwise, Ford will become a dinosaur.

I've been at several companies in my career. Seen many layoffs executed. This is the worst executed layoff I've ever witnessed. People are going in for their annual bonus and merit pay raise discussions and being told "Here's your bonus. Oh and here is your severance pay. Bye." Awful.

Fat man in WHQs is the worst CEO in this company's 115+ year history. Yes that includes Jacque Nassar. Bill Ford should be ashamed of himself. This is supposedly one of the most ethical companies in the world. That title is now a joke.

“It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.”. Ain’t that the truth. Sure doesn’t square with our Corporate Cultural Values though does it? We are suppose to Respect Knowledge Over Hierarchy and aspire to be Agile and. Deliver Value at Market Speed. I too observe what @iiv describe. The one person who laid off was the one everyone else went to for help and one who automate our hard tasks. Bad message to remaining peoples as the bad employees remains.

-qim. What you say about buck passing is true. What you neglected to say is that those leaders and GSR who fight the good fight and take ownership and try to fix the system are the very ones that are lay-off as they are not a good Ford cultural fit. I saw this happen in my area and others in 2008 and it is replaying in 2019. This is why Ford is in its death spiral. One person who got hit wrote code to replace 48 peoples months long manual processes with a mouse click. The 48 people are still here plugging away and their leader is insisting they need more people so they can shrink their delivery time. The automated process was buried by the empire building leader. Anyone who thinks Ford is about innovation, has blinders on. As soon as I can sell my MI house, I am out of this place

The big issue is how poorly they're executing this. There's no excuse for it.

You're speaking as if you as an employee are not one of the agents not equally culpable of poor execution. Speaking as an employee of a foreign nameplate where problem ownership is ingrained into the company culture, the willingness to pass the buck at every level at Ford is just as comedic as it is pathetic.

The big issue isn't about whether this is necessary or not.

The big issue is how poorly they're executing this. There's no excuse for it.

Age, wage, years of service, and a combination of HR metrics. They may throw in some young people to cover the discrimination. And after the layoff, they will call these young people back. GM did this way.

Correct and like mentioned before performance plays no part. It’s age, salary, years of service, and a combination of of metrics in relation to retirement as well to reduce pension obligations where possible. All basic HR metrics.

They are just managing the inevitable demise. They are so inept and paying 90 million for the train station is the perfect example. They love spending share holder money. If bill ford was so in love with the train station why didn’t he put up his own money! Losers

On the ground I would disagree. A blind man throwing darts could of done a better job selecting which LL4, LL5, LL6 to lay-off. In my area it has been consistent the best and brightest who got walked out this week while the all the knife wielding weasels remain.
