Thread regarding Ford layoffs

For those Ford laid off this year or in past, I have a question

For those Ford laid off, I have a question. If you are under 62 and was planning to retire at EOY, and you have a feeling that you are being targeted - would you be better of submitting your retirement papers now? Or does the lay-off allow you to immediately collect your pension including supplemental even though you are not 65? The wife is thinking I might need to retire today.

If it's like at GM (and it likely is) you're better off getting the layoff package and waiting until that runs out to start claiming your pension. Your pension will have an age-related reduction if you claim it before you turn 62.

I'm not sure what the Ford layoff package is. At GM it was 6 months pay. So, if they walk you out in June, you can let that layoff package carry you to the end of the year and your 62nd birthday.
